The Rebel v3 feels even more like a daily trainer than v2. It has improved durability, a more stable ride and a little bit more cushioning. I think New Balance achieved exactly what they were aiming for: a trainer that appeals more to the mainstream.
Our favorite plate-cushioned racer continues to the Saucony Endorphin Speed V2 because of the value it offers at the price. IS THE NEW BALANCE FUELCELL REBEL V2 DURABLE? However, if you explore alternatives outside New Balance, a road racer like the Saucony Type A9 is excellent for short-distance races.

The only weakness of the Rebel v2 is that its outsole areas which aren’t covered with rubber get chewed up by the ground so I don’t expect durability to be good. DPT/Footwear Science: A (Foam is new, and taking something so soft and making it functional is neat to see with the mechannics of the shoe) Just like the first version, the Rebel V2 is an excellent running shoe for forefoot strikers. There’s plenty of deep cushioning to tap into, and the wide midsole provides a reliable foundation to land and launch from. If you thought that New Balance was only going to make minor changes to the second iteration of the Rebel, you’ll be in for a surprise. The Rebel v2 has been revamped with a brand new upper, midsole and outsole. Like most things running-related, the PF soreness isn’t persistent and will go away once the body adapts to the unstructured midsole.
Most lightweight trainers have a firm ride which makes them only suitable for short, fast runs but the Pegasus Turbo could be used for longer runs as well as short, tempo ones. However, if you’re recovering from Plantar Fasciitis or are generally injury-prone, we don’t recommend buying the Rebel V2. Just like the Rebel v2, going true to size will be a really snug fit so I suggest going up a half size. This is one of the rare shoes I’ve tested which I needed to size up. Going up a half size will provide a spacious forefoot and toe box for long training runs. It has a 6 mm drop which makes it more of a midfoot/forefoot striker trainer than a heel striker trainer because it encourages you to strike further forward- this makes it a great shoe for short tempo or workout runs if you prefer a plateless trainer for speedwork. I find the flexible forefoot of the Rebel v3 a little too relaxed; I crave something stiffer with a plate for speedwork. The Rebel v3 has a similar mesh to version 2 but it’s not as translucent. It has a rough texture and doesn’t stretch so it feels more like a racing shoe upper than a training one. Breathability is excellent and overall comfort is very good.Matt: "The upper on the Rebel v2 is great. It is a thin mesh that holds my foot snuggly and comfortably. Our speed running shoes are just as innovative, and are powered by REVlite cushioning and lightweight solid rubber outsoles. New Balance Running Shoes: The History After 50 miles, the outsole seems to be doing okay. Even though it is soft, the flexible design spreads the wear and tear evenly. We’ll probably recommend another rotational strategy when the updated (and hopefully more durable) Rebel 3 is released. But for now, we can think of the Fresh Foam 1080 V11 as a reliable muncher of long miles and such. Its upper is soft, and the midsole delivers a cushy ride.
However. After the first outing in the Rebel, the Plantar Fascia felt sore. Not many shoes do that. In our many years of reviewing shoes, only the adidas Pureboost, Nike Pegasus Turbo, and Skechers GoMeb Speed 3 have achieved that ignominious distinction. The Pegasus Turbo was a one-of-a-kind lightweight trainer because it was super soft and really versatile. The FuelCell midsole of the Rebel v2 bears a striking resemblance to the RC Elite’s FuelCell midsole. Both are super soft and are the same “milky” white colour. The midfoot and rearfoot are narrow compared to the forefoot. The outsole rubber placement also makes the shoe more suited to forefoot striking. The Rebel v2’s midsole is highly compressible which makes it one of the softest shoes I’ve tested all year. It doesn’t have a lot of cushioning depth compared to a 1080v11 or a Clifton 7 but the foam feels more squishy.They already had the Beacon and the Zante (now called the Tempo) but both of those trainers were built on the Fresh Foam template. The Rebel is a lightweight trainer that uses FuelCell as its midsole foam. Fit: A (Very dialed in throughout, wider toe box is very nice and comfortable, mesh is breathable and lightweight while still being comfortable for a training shoe, pull tab is really the only thing and that isn't a deal breaker) The outsole isn’t much to look at. The rubber slabs are thin and soft, thus allowing them to bend whenever the midsole does. For me, the Rebel v2 functions best as a daily trainer for middle distances at easy/steady paces between 4.30 and 5.30 per kilometre. It has a super soft, smooth ride with good energy return that makes it fun to run in. New Balance men’s running shoes are renowned for their sleek designs, lightweight materials and supreme cushioning. For something better suited to long-distance running, opt for the 880, which features a breathable mesh FantomFit upper with a no-sew overlay engineered for ultra-light support.
It was a risk for New Balance to introduce another lightweight, tempo trainer into their performance running lineup. Based on internet chatter, New Balance is going to completely overhaul the Rebel for its third outing. For a change, we’re actually looking forward to a shoe receiving its annual update. SHOES SIMILAR TO THE NEW BALANCE FUELCELL REBEL V2 You don't necessarily recognize the FuelCell Rebel v2 as a New Balance shoe at first glance. It is also not one of the classic lifestyle sneakers from the traditional American brand, but one of their running shoes that feature sport-specific material technology. Nonetheless, the FuelCell Rebel v2 is also clearly oriented towards one style. This is less of the typical 80s design, as is the case with the sneakers from the Lifestyle collection, but rather the shoe looks rather futuristic with its sweeping lines, the narrow, bulged collar, and the asymmetrical lacing and color distribution.
