About this deal

The restoration programme in 2005 was in keeping with the spirit of the original Victorian design, whilst rejuvenating the plant collections and adapting the Gardens for modern-day needs. Valigorsky, Jon (1990). "Rhododendrons For The 90s: The Northeast Perspective". Journal American Rhododendron Society. 44 (1). ISSN 0745-7839. Disabled toilet and baby changing facilities are available on platform 1, in the Bessemer Arms or on platform 2 next to the museum. Situated in the locomotive shed on platform 1 , SteamWorks! uses touchscreen displays, information boards, and interactive elements to bring the science and mechanics of steam to life.

There are many winding paths to take and is perfect on a sunny day to enjoy the abundance of flowers and quiet spaces to enjoy a picnic. You can also visit the parkland for a natural play trail to keep the kids entertained and the paths are also buggy and wheelchair friendly. Probably the most impressive time to visit is the displays of Autumn colours through the park. This really is a sight not to be missed – walking along the pathways admiring the seasonal colours of the trees and plants. When no timetabled trains are running – sorry, both Steamworks! and the locomotive shed will be closed.

We like to pair a trip to Sheffield Park with a trip to Latchett’s Farm which is a short 5-minute drive down the road, for an ice cream from their ice cream parlour.
