As we hit the 12-year mark, you get more woody smoothness from the French oak barrels in which this Metaxa is aged. The Metaxa Private Reserve is the Master Blenders’ personal blend only made once a year, while the Metaxa Angels’ Treasure is ‘what the angels have left behind’. Year in, year out, Constantinos keeps getting this blend spot on, it truly is the pinnacle of the distillery’s output. Metaxa 7 Stars is a pot stilled 7-year old brandy blend of Savatiano, Soultanina, and Black Corinth grapes blended with aromatic Muscat wine and fragrant botanicals. The second process that gives this brandy its unique taste is the mix of local herbs that are put in to add aroma and herbal flavors.The Metaxa Private Reserve is made yearly by the Metaxa Master, who selects the well-aged expressions of Greek brandy from the extensive cellars. While the brewery keeps the exact ingredients and amounts secret for its recipe’s sake, it’s known to include May roses and other local Mediterranean herbs that are added before aging. The blend is then aged for a further year in oak barrels, cold-filtered and bottled, ready to delight its new owner. The Metaxa Private Reserve delivers a rewarding aftertaste mimicking the region’s dried fruits and sweet spices.

Several Metaxa products have numbered “star” designations indicating, according to different sources, either the product’s age, the number of base spirits and wines used in making it, or simply the quality level (itself a reflection of the age).
