Mary B is a re-telling and continuation of the Pride and Prejudice story from Mary Bennett's point of view.
Recommended for readers who like books that are written in the style of Jane Austen and who can also bear new major story arcs to beloved characters. Even so, the writing style is splendid, with many tidy turns of phrase, as well as perfectly constructed paragraphs—perhaps most notably regarding the novel-inside-a-novel parts.Bennet, the text states, delights in coming to visit unexpectedly, which seems to me to indicate they all have a great time together. Mary B, on the other hand, is a private person and has not shared any information about her personal life, including her relationship status. Cromwell fell from favour and was arrested for treason in June 1540; one of the unlikely charges against him was that he had plotted to marry Mary himself.
Philip was Spanish and therefore distrusted, and many in England now had a vested interest in the prosperity of the Protestant church, having received church lands and money after Henry dissolved the monasteries. While she has publicly defended him, the accusations have raised questions about their professional association and whether it is appropriate for her to continue working with him. In response to the accusations, Mary B Side released a statement expressing her support for Robbins and his work.Michieli dismissively ridiculed the pregnancy as more likely to "end in wind rather than anything else". But no child was born, and Mary was forced to accept that her half-sister Elizabeth would be her lawful successor. The marriage was unpopular with the English; Gardiner and his allies opposed it on the basis of patriotism, while Protestants were motivated by a fear of Catholicism. Her executioner was "a wretched and blundering youth" who "literally hacked her head and shoulders to pieces".
