Nobody in this manga can commit to anything and they don't try in the slightest, but then they're all so desperate. At the hospital, Yuuichi chides Mama for "accidentally" falling off a third story stairwell and hurting her arm. Aiko tells Punpun in a note to meet her outside City Hall, while Harumi says goodbye to the class and a teary Sonoda. And you’re proud of Punpun’s dad for being great in one facet (the only one) and find out it’s not even true! Of course, you may be able to put a lot of it down to misguided first loves and hormones, but I am not sure if that covers it all.I am still hugely enjoying this series but compared to the revelations we got in volume 3 this one was just a little bit of a quieter moment in Punpun's life and that's ok, none of us need to be in turmoil all day every day and it was nice to see Punpun having some halfway decent times. I normally don’t like manga girls in glasses but this one is drawn pretty stylish, not mousey, and she’s boldly funny, self-assured—unlike his perpetual but ever-estranged love interest, Aiko. Asano takes Punpun on a brilliant upward swing in the fourth volume; but it is obvious to anyone who's read this far that good times don't go on for long here. It's very dark, which isn't a problem for me, but if nothing else I'm constantly feeling like on some level I'm not really understanding what I'm reading.

Unrelated to my rating, I can't get over how distracting (and not in a good way) Mama Onodera's "breasts" are. This is one of my favorite manga series, if not my favorite, as I've said many times before, and I just love how dark it is. They have a lunch at the newly opened cafe, and Yuuichi recognizes the waitress, Midori, from somewhere. Punpun wakes up to a concerned Aiko, Seki, and Shimizu and finds the short downpour has washed away the fire and his urine. It IS one of those books that has the potential to reach out and save someone as it shows that you're not alone.An edgy, dark coming-of-age story from the Eisner- and Harvey-nominated creator of solanin, What a Wonderful World! Punpun is sure Aiko must've chickened out their trip to Kagoshima just as the taxi passes by City Hall, where a crying and rejected Aiko stands alone. Punpun found himself slowly, slowly traversing the memories scattered about here and there that made up his very short life.

It’s been a couple of months since I read the third book, so I don’t remember him going at an art museum date where the manga artist recognizes him now.
