Some of these use practical effects but most use some form of dated visual effects that really takes away from the kill. When people think of the Friday the 13th series the fifth installment, A New Beginning, often gets criticized by fans. Bracke is relatively breathless as Marcus takes us through his experiences making the film, addressing the various reactions to it, and defending his choices. The still gallery contains a total of 72 on-set stills, behind-the-scenes photos, press materials, posters, lobby cards, and script pages.

The kills are not as polished as the previous films but it still satisfies those looking for slasher deaths. The original audio commentary with Marcus and Dean Lorey is hilarious as the two watch and discuss the film, enhanced only by the fact that (admitted in the preceding commentary) that Lorey was having drinks while they recorded it. Friday the 13th Props takes a brief look at a coffee table book dedicated to various props from the series.

The second film introduced Jason, the third introduced his iconic hockey mask, the fourth was Jason’s death and the introduction of Tommy Jarvis. The story for this one is outlandish before you even toss in the sub-plot following the film’s lead who was almost drowned by the kid Jason in the lake.

Finally, this film has several death scenes that features some top notch practical effects along with make-up effects. When The Friday the 13th Chronicles: Friday the 13th Part III is highlighted, press right to reveal a bloody egg, which will take you to three vintage TNT TV ads, one for a Saturday Nitro marathon of Friday films, and the other two for the infamous Joe Bob Briggs Monstervision marathon of Friday films (a shame that the segments for that couldn’t be included somehow).

The Fangoria magazine BD-ROM attachment features the article The Six Faces of Jason: Part One by Marc Shapiro. Overall, Jason Takes Manhattan is not the most original or important installment in the series but I will always have a soft spot for it. Finally, Jason X is missing audio during a scene in the film in which Jason kills camp counselors in a sleeping bag.

This character’s personality is unforgettable and at this point Englund is the only one that can do it right. Fresh Cuts speaks to most of the same members of the cast and crew, as well as others, telling random stories about the making of the film. However, their absence is not felt, and they are still fully available elsewhere (and highly recommended as well).
