The band recorded a live album at the theater in March 2000, releasing Peakin' at the Beacon that November. unsuccessfully attempted to obtain the rights to screen First National Pictures films at the new Beacon. The Beacon Theatre started hosting the New York Music Awards in 1987, the year after the award had been founded.

The Beacon was temporarily converted to an IMAX theater for the screening of the film Stones at the Max in 1991. It was nice to hear live versions of "Midnight Flyer,""21," and "Ol' 55," as you don't hear very many released live performances of those particular cuts. The Beacon is one of three theaters in Manhattan that retains its original organ, along with Radio City Music Hall and the United Palace. Relatively few architects were responsible for these theaters' designs, including Walter Ahlschlager, Thomas W.

The latter half of the decade saw appearances by performers including rock musician Ian Anderson, [174] jazz tenor Sonny Rollins, [175] Italian blues singer Zucchero Fornaciari, [176] as well as a classical music concert.
