Stories like this need to be told, but I so disliked the way this was told.

The author's prologue suggests that the book is mostly about the cancer, but that's not the case at all. And while Wilson did the abusive dad stuff well, the cancer stuff was not as good. It seemed like an add on, sort of an excuse to get Auntie Barbara into the picture. I’m nearly 64 and in school this sort of thing was taught in history class, yes, the slaves, the treatment that the White people used these humans for, despicable.Overall, this was just a really great thriller/historical fiction/lit-fic hybrid and I'm SO glad I randomly took a chance on it. I hope the author writes another book very, very soon!

I decided to re-read this book recently and fell in love with the story. I always remembered how the plot went, however I still found myself enchanted with what Jacqueline Wilson presented for my mind to consume. Like Humans, Trees tell a Story. In 9 Months, they go from nakedness to half dressed, to fully flourishing bloom. Then they repeat the process all over again.” Highly recommended for 2 to 6 year olds who are older siblings, and some older children too. This is designed as a read aloud book but will also be enjoyed by young independent readers. Lucy's plan to chain Lola and pretend that she and Lana were split personalities would not actually work, since the librarian saw them together at the library. Lola: A right? Pfft. Yose-mite, I just got a perfect score on my written test. I think I can do a little more than take a right.

I found this to be an incredible book. It exposes horrors, that occurred, but also is filled with love and remarkable resilience.
