Lester used to say that extricating ourselves from this situation in which we all find ourselves is either “simple or impossible.” It is simple when we allow it to be easy. We can allow our energy to flow inward toward self-discovery and for loving acceptance of what is. It is impossible when we force our energy to flow outward. We fight against the world of our own creation and try to prove to everyone, including ourselves, that our world and its problems are real. Building on Seligman’s three dimensions of happiness, Sirgy and Wu (2009) added the balanced life dimension. There is only one way to happiness and that is to cease worrying about things which are beyond the power of our will.” You might be wondering why happiness is considered such an important aspect of life, as there are many components of a meaningful life. Many studies have found that happiness actually improves other aspects of our lives. Here is an overview of some of the good stuff that research has linked to happiness.

One of my most treasured books that changed my life is Lester's Keys to the Ultimate Freedom. It features Lester's words and insights drawn from decades of his teachings, and it is the only book that sits on my bedside table. Unfortunately the book has been out of print for a long time, but Hale Dwoskin has taken all of Lester's teachings from Keys to the Ultimate Freedom and put them in this new book, along with many of the releasing methods from the Sedona Method. You have the best of Lester's teachings and his methods in this one book, and if freedom and joy are what you seek, I couldn't recommend this book more. I used the Sedona Method occasionally over a ten-year period and found enormous benefit from it. Then, when I met my teacher -- who was a student of Lester Levenson's -- four years ago, Lester's releasing methods became a crucial part of my everyday life and my awakening."Mental Subtraction of Positive Events: Visualize what your life would be like without the good things you have.

Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.” Here are some of the keys to happiness identified by researchers, along with some specific, science-based activities for strengthening skills of happiness, in ourselves and in society. Happiness and meaning have an even more distinct line between the two. Rarely are happiness and meaning confused or used interchangeably, and for good reason—they describe two very different experiences. When most of us think of the meaning of happiness, we conjure up a series of images such as material wealth, the love of family and friends, or the admiration of others. However, this is not the true essence of happiness; that is simply allowing the ego to control you. Happiness is our true basic nature, but through the constraints and limitations society and our thought processes place on us, we somehow believe it is beyond our reach. Many people never discover their true nature because of fear or self-limiting beliefs. In Happiness Is Free by Lester Levenson and Hale Dwoskin, discover through the teachings of the Sedona Method why fear, limitations, and self-defeating habits are false beliefs that can be changed. You will also understand the powerful consequences of your thoughts and in doing so be more conscious of them and not allow them to run on autopilot. True freedom, happiness, and love have always been within our reach but many of us have been looking in the wrong place.

Just finished your article on happiness, or SWB and meaning . As stated in your article, happiness is fleeting and subject to feel good material goods and personal objectives. Having sex, kids, buying a new car, an opioid response. However, I thought life was supposed to have meaning that would contribute to my happiness. I chose a career based on what I thought I could contribute to my own and others lives. Rather naïve on my behalf and futile at this stage. I’m 72 years old and understand less now about the world as it is than ever before. I’ve seen the horrors of war and have moved forward from those days to marrying, having a family and building a career, the dopamine response, however I’ve lost the meaning of life and find myself unhappy, angry, reclusive and frustrated. I have done drugs, tried meditation and read books searching for meaning and happiness, which has been elusive at times. Your article helped put certain expectations of others and myself in perspective and what I need to do to achieve happiness and meaning. Thank you! Reply Eudaimonic happiness/well-being conceptualizes happiness as the result of the pursuit and attainment of life purpose, meaning, challenge, and personal growth; happiness is based on reaching one’s full potential and operating at full functioning (AIPC, 2011).
