About this deal

Never bend CAT5 wire tightly around a corner; make sure it bends gradually, so that a whole circle would be at least 2" across. Watch especially when the wire comes out a drilled hole and turns; don't let knots or kinks happen even temporarily. These are the cables commonly used in large data centers, computer networking offices, and homes. What Is Included in a Cat5 Cable? U/UTP (Unshielded/Unshielded Twisted Pair): Neither the individual twisted pairs nor the cable has any additional shielding built-in. Only the basic protections - the standard insulation around each twisted wire, and the cable sheath itself - are present Cat5e cable spec dictates that it can carry data over a wired connection at speeds of either 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, or 1000 Mbps (equal to 1 Gbps, and thus usually referred to as Gigabit Ethernet). You will often see this written as 10/100/1000 Ethernet. This means that if your local network (or incoming internet connection) runs at between 10-1000 Mbps/1 Gb (also known as a 1000BASE-T network), Cat5e Ethernet cable should be able to handle the required data throughput at full speed, with no loss or delay. There is also a plan to increase the speeds of Cat5e to 5 Gbps over the existing cables, known as the IEEE P802.3bz standard, which also works on Cat6 cabling.

However, there are valid use cases for choosing longer runs of Cat5e wiring, in which case you can easily buy reels in lengths of 1000ft or more. Common pre-cut lengths you will see on sale at UK suppliers include 30cm/300mm, 50cm/500mm, 1m, 2m, 3m, 5m, 10m, 30m, 100m, 152m, and 305m.Never untwist the 2 wires in a single pair for more than 1/3-1/2" to make a connection (the twists are critical to cancel out interference between the wires).

Once you have established which wiring convention you need to use, complete your RJ45 wiring by following these basic steps: U/FTP (Unshielded/Foil Twisted Pair): The individual twisted pairs each have their layer of additional foil shielding around them, but the cable only has the basic outer sheathing Remember that Pin 1 is on the left hand side of the RJ45 connector with the clip at the rear. Crossover Ethernet CableThere are two different pinout standards used worldwide, and depending on your location, you will determine which one you should use. An easy way to remember the two different RJ45 connector pinouts is T568A is used in America and Asia, and T568B is used in Britain(UK) and Europe. The different pinouts will still work if you mix them up.

In modern domestic and commercial environments, RJ45 connectors are primarily used for plugging an internet-enabled device directly into hardware such as a modem, router, or server. The connectors themselves are the modular sets of fittings at either end of the physical data connection (Ethernet cable) joining one networked device to another. See to the right for a Cat5e cable diagram, showing the basic construction of different types of Cat5e Ethernet cables. Cat5 and Cat5e cables are available in a wide variety of different lengths. In most cases, Cat5 patch cables tend to be chosen for reasonably short runs (100ft or less), especially if they are stranded core wires. If you bundle a group of cables together with cable ties, do not over-cinch them. It's okay to snug them together firmly; but don't tighten them so much that you deform the cables. Solid conductor (solid-core) Cat5/Cat5e Ethernet cable tends to be used where longer runs need to be set up to achieve a more reliable and stable permanent wired network. This is more common in office buildings and other professional setups. Applications that involve running outdoor Cat5 cable, or passing it through sections of wall, will often benefit from the use of solid-core wiring.

What is the maximum length of an Ethernet cable?

Untwist and separate the eight individual wire strands that make up the cable core. Flatten and straighten them out as much as possible This needs to be balanced against the goal to “future proof” the network. The wiring is a project to install, and the labor costs, when done by professionals, usually exceed the materials cost. But it's tempting to spend a little more in the hope that the network will outlast the peripherals. For those that want to take this route, Cat6 or Cat6a are good options. Alternatively known as an Ethernet cable or LAN cable, a Cat 5 or category 5 is a network cable that consists of four twisted pairs of copper wire terminated by an RJ-45 connector. The picture shows an example of a Cat 5 cable. What is written above will be understood more when we will see the templates of the wiring diagram.
