About this deal

For movie fans, choosing a 50-inch TV ensures that you can enjoy the latest content just as the Director intended. Plus, for gamers, a large screen can provide a more engaging experience, particularly on one of the best TVs for gaming. The larger screen size makes games feel more immersive and visually impressive. All in all, larger cinematic screens have had a seismic effect on our living rooms and entertainment. But just how affordable are they and which one is right for you? Best 50-inch smart TVs of 2023 at a glance: A cookie set by YouTube to measure bandwidth that determines whether the user gets the new or old player interface. On the Hisense 55U7QF, the best out of the box present was Cinema Night with gamma set to BT.1886 and all noise reduction and other image manipulation features switched off. Ultra Smooth Motion and Clear motion were also switched off and the Local Dimming was left at default in Cinema Night mode. Continuing the gaming discussion, the 55A7GQ’s HDMIs support ALLM (Automatic Low Latency Mode) switching with compatible devices (such as the Xbox Series X), and when switched into its dedicated Game picture preset the TV delivers a very respectable 14.6ms of input lag. There are even some gamer-friendly features such as a 60Hz refresh rate, although there aren't any HDMI 2.1 ports here. This cookie is set by the Bazaarvoice. Moving to the Rec.709 HD colour gamut results and with the white point corrected we also have a near reference result with just two small errors seen on the graph. However, our DeltaE errors are an average of 1.73, so well below the visible threshold of three and we couldn’t see any issues with TV and film viewing. These are impressive SDR results from the Hisense.

We didn’t have any issues at all with VIDAA which stands up against other providers such as Android. Does it spread the audio all the way round the room? Does it offer height-infused Dolby Atmos sound? No. It’s a TV with small speakers and just enough processing that means you can understand what everyone is saying. Not all soundbars can manage that. Verdict Take out the 2 stands from the accessory bag and then insert the stands into the bottom slots of the TV.We’re told these features are in “the early stages of development”, but for now it’s probably better to give them a wide berth. Switching down to standard-definition material with Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Blu-ray, we are reminded of last year’s Roku TV and its brilliance with upscaling from 1080p. Fortunately, that ability remains intact. When it comes to picture modes, there are a few to choose from. Those being HDR Day, HDR Night, HDR Dynamic, HDR Sports or Auto. Choosing HDR Day does make it more visible in the sun but it also makes colours look a little over the top, while HDR Night dulls them out a little too much.

However, Hisense seems to know where this TV’s strengths lie. It’s not trying to offer finesse, it’s aiming to land a punch. And it does so successfully. The picture is bright and colourful, and even sharper and richer than its apparently identical predecessor.

What is the Hisense U7QF?

If you’re willing to spend a bit more for an even better piece of kit, the Samsung AU9000 review (50AU9000) was rated five stars in its T3 review. While it may not have Dolby Vision, it does have great picture performance from most sources.
