About this deal

While Abilene is on a cruise ship with her family, some boys steal Edward and accidentally toss him overboard while playing catch with him. What does Edward think of himself? Although this may have been written for younger readers I believe it will be enjoyed by people of all ages. If you don't cry at some point you're as heartless as Edward is in the beginning. However, despite the tears, you will be left with a happy ending. I have to admit that I bawled like a baby when I finished this book, a modern classic. Common Sense is the nation's leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of all kids and families by providing the trustworthy information, education, and independent voice they need to thrive in the 21st century. A timeless tale by the incomparable Kate DiCamillo, complete with stunning full-color plates by Bagram Ibatoulline, honors the enduring power of love. Kate DiCamillo is also the author of The Tale of Despereaux, Because of Winn Dixie and over a dozen other books.

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane is Guided Reading Level U and is appropriate for 3-5th grade readers. The DRA level for this book is a 50, so it should only be considered as independent reading for advanced readers in 3-4th grade. What's included in this novel study unit? This is the story tells the tale of a small china rabbit who was made as a toy for a child in a wealthy family. While he may appear like any other toy on the outside, it is clear from the beginning that Edward Tulane is far from your average plaything. Just because it’s intended for a younger audience doesn’t mean there isn’t something worthwhile in there for us all. When I read those stories in my distant youth, they spoke to me. Now, I fear, if I re-read them, I might suspect that the author was deliberately playing with my emotions. Even though I know that authors, do exactly that to make a point.The delicate sepia images that head each chapter and the full-color illustrations augment the emotional tenor of the book. rewrite the ending of grandmother’s fairy tale, so that it is more to Abilene’s liking or take a well known fairy tale and change the expected ending to a darker version (sharing The Lost Happy Endings, by Carol Ann Duffy, would be supportive at this point);

One reading is hardly enough to savor the rich philosophical nuances of DiCamillo’s story. I think I will go read it again right now.Have students create a timeline of Edward’s journey. Include all the important events in the story. Artwork
