About this deal

There’s nothing worse than being woken up from your nap aeons earlier than planned, which is a fact of (synthetic) life for Necrons across the galaxy. This Battleforce is especially cranky about it, and wants to put its opponents to bed with esoteric guns wielded by Lokhust Heavy Destroyers and Canoptek Doomstalkers, and the razor-sharp claws of the Ophydian Destroyers and Flayed Ones. Lady Annika, the Thirsting Blade is also part of Ulfenkarn nobility. Her thirst for blood forces her in the middle of the fray until there’s no one else left alive around her with her sword draining the victims of their bodily fluids. Radukar the Beast

Holy moley this is a good deal. Almost everything here is absolutely worth taking and has competitive viability. The Vengorian Lord is one of the more powerful units in the book, granting a reduction in rend to enemy units it is in combat with and being a solid combat monster in its own right. Deadwalker Zombies are considered the choice battleline, with their nasty 6″ pile-in and ability to inflict mortals on 6s. The fact you’re given 2 boxes is extremely welcome. Finally the Blood Knights are a powerful hammer, fast, able to inflict a ton of damage and resilient in their own right. First up are the vampires of the Soulblight Gravelords, who lead a dolorous horde of brainless thralls in a bumper box that contains 66 miniatures. Hordes of Deadwalker Zombies are particularly useful for pinning down enemy forces while the Vengorian Lord and their Blood Knights swoop in for the jugular. The Christmas Battleforces are here, accompanied by a Rohan Stronghold in a box, and one very swish looking Praetor for The Horus Heresy. We saw some Skeleton Warriors in Cursed City, but here are some new models available outside of the board game with the same style. Zombies With Vanari Auralan Wardens, Bladelords, Dawnriders, and a Starshard Ballista, all led by a Vanari Bannerblade and a Lord Regent, this is the perfect Tyrionic hammer for newly arrived Realm-lords."

This does make me wonder where the long-rumoured GW (not Forgeworld) Horus Heresy box is going to fit in now? Probably in the new year? It starts with the box where they show you everything in the box, you get decal sheets, sprues, and instructions. It pits Xandire’s Truthseekers, a warband of Stormcast Eternals armed with the Thunderstrike Armour (and an Aetherwing) against Da Kunnin’ Krew, a warband of Orruk Kruleboyz.

Overall, these are all decent values and they did a pretty good job of keeping the total MSRP all very similar. While the Space Marines have the most value in terms of dollars, it’s not by an insane amount. Whether you play the armies already or not they come with a decent chunk of units to get somebody started off on the right foot or add to your forces. If the skeletal-robot theme of Necrons is more our speed, then this box also comes with a great selection of different types of models to give you a sense of what a full army might be like. For those in the United States and Canada, Forge World Memphis** has had its requisitions delayed by solar interference, so the Omnissiah’s Talon box won’t arrive until early next year. Warhammer Fest Day 4 finally previewed the last warband for Season 4 (Direchasm) of Warhammer Underworlds, and it’s really fishy! And holy crab! That little crustacean was the highlight of Warhammer Fest! There are six Warhammer 40k Battleforces this year and some are much better values than others. 40k Christmas Battleforces: What’s the Value?
