About this deal

Detective Steele and her partner Trent are given the case, begrudgingly and start to gather evidence including a playing card left on the body that matches the victim in Felicity's latest book. Felicity has just hit the pinnacle of her career after being offered a movie deal so where has it all gone wrong and who would want her dead?

The glow from the fireplace throws an eerie light over the woman’s carefully arranged body, her lifeless eyes reflecting the flames that slowly burn the evidence of who did this to her…Her Last Words is a more than tempting title, brilliant in execution and ultimately seducing. It represents a wonderful entry for Kim Kelly in the field of Australian contemporary fiction.

Throughout the story, there are many serendipitous moments that are seemingly unconnected to each other but show the 'small world effect' where things are interconnected in ways we may never fully be aware of. Though some of these moments seem most unlikely or too serendipitous, I loved them all the more for this reason and I loved how they were woven into the story. Her Last Words is the first novel from Irish author E.V. Kelly. This is a psychological thriller set in Dublin.A word about the author: Carolyn Arnold has written more than thirty books featuring five series and spanning different genre including strong police procedurals, cozy mysteries, and adventure novels. John comes very close to getting his wish, just as he realises it’s not really what he wants. Kelly’s insight into John’s depression is thoughtful and empathetic as he struggles both mentally and physically, haunted by his last moments with Thisbe. It's a crisp spring morning when Cass drops her husband, a respected lecturer, to the beach for his medically prescribed swim. While waiting for him, something catches her eye. A young woman runs towards her husband and embraces him - until he holds his hand over her face and she falls down on the stones, dead." Felicity is a successful crime novelist and Amanda was on the case. Could her success have been the catalyst? Could it be her work in progress? She was known for her in depth, detailed research. Could she has found something someone wanted to left undiscovered?

To bring us this story, Kim has sidestepped traditional publishing, and I’m so glad. A traditional publisher would likely have changed this story to make it fit the market. Editorial interference would, I fear, have destroyed the essence of this story. By not ‘following the rules’ Kim has created a true gem. There are so many layers to this book—from the way the story is structured, to the multifaceted storyline and cast of characters. As I read Her Last Words, I actually pictured this story on the big screen; one of those movies with wonderfully quirky ensembles of Hollywood A-Listers. But the scene is an odd one and it gets odder too. When Amanda and Trent learn Felicity was killed just like a character in her best selling novel 'The Romeo Killer' An author is killed in the same manner as a character in her latest book. Her final phone call was to Detective Amanda Steele but was never answered so now Amanda is determined to find the killer but he strikes again... Her Last Words by Carolyn Arnold is the 9th book in her fantastic Detective Amanda Steele series. I am a big fan of Arnold, having read most of her books, and I love this series, which continues with another great addition. Her Last Words was a fantastic read, with me unable to put the book down.By creating a space for open and honest conversations about mental health, songs like “Her Last Words” help to break down barriers and challenge societal stigma. They give a voice to those who may feel isolated and offer a sense of empowerment to those struggling with their mental well-being. 8. What is the significance of the song’s title, “Her Last Words”? This book is also a love story - one between John and Thisbe, and Penny and John - and how out of the darkness of losing one's way, a path to recovery can emerge, always there but not in sight until hope illuminates its existence. Depression is an eel that slips between the ribs unnoticed until it's feeding on your heart. It darts between circumstantial sense – the relationship between bad things happening and bad feelings had – and the shark shadows of every nightmarish dream, every unnameable, aching need." While her best friends, Penny and Jane, and her darling boyfriend, John, seem set for stellar careers in their chosen fields, Thisbe works nights as a hostess at a glitzy harbourside Sydney club - a job she despises but it's paid the rent for the last three years since university graduation.
