About this deal

The Shatter Me series is a YA Fantasy Romance. So let’s dissect that. First, Romance is an important aspect of the plot and it does contain romantic elements. But it’s also YA, or Young Adult, meaning that it’s meant for ages 13 to 17. The short answer is Yes! You can skip the novellas. They aren’t necessary at all to understand the main story. Here is a spoiler summary of what happened in Defy Me, the fifth book in Tahereh Mafi’s bestselling Shatter Me series. We have recaps of the whole series so far if you need a refresher on what happened. Without Warner and Juliette, I don’t think we’re safe here. Lily takes Ian’s hand in a show of emotional support that makes me feel violent. The soldiers paid their allegiance to the two of them—to Juliette in particular. Without her, I’m not sure they’d follow the rest of us anywhere. Oh god, all those revelations! I can’t even... I’m still thinking about everything that happened in this book, I’m trying to wrap my head around it, I’m trying to understand it, but I just can’t.

Tahereh Mafi is a best-selling YA Fantasy author best known for the Shatter Me series. However, she’s also written other books like This Woven Kingdom and A Very Large Expanse of Sea. The latter was named one of the best YA books of all time by Time Magazine. After reading this book it became very clear to why this book can be considered a part of the second trilogy in the series and not a direct extension of the first. The first 3 books clearly share the same kind of ambiance but this book definitely branches off to another part of their lives and has a different air surrounding it. I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait for the next two. Paris Warner!! Last time we saw him, Juliette, you know, shot him. Twice. But it seems the old Supreme Commander survived with a little healing. Warner, his son, doesn’t take the news so well and attempts to murder him. Again. These main characters' personalities, motivations, and development are intricately woven into the book's themes and plot. Juliette's journey of self-discovery aligns with the theme of identity, while Warner's evolution explores themes of love, trust, and redemption. Kenji's steadfast loyalty and humor reinforce the importance of friendship and support. Collectively, their character arcs contribute to the narrative's exploration of love, personal growth, and the complex interplay between identity and relationships in a dystopian world. Kenji’s eyes widen, surprised, and he laughs. He nods at my face and says, “Aw, you’ve got dimples. I didn’t know that. That’s cute.”

James’s face lights up. I was just thinking: maybe all the fake-killing thing was, like, a distraction.

Defy Me

warner's inner monologue is......... everything. i mean that both literally because of its weight and meaningfulness, but also his sarcasm is perf I really have no updated review for this other than GODDAMN IT, IT STILL ENDED THE SAME WAY AND I NEED ANSWERS. thanks for attending my tedtalk.

Nazeera takes Warner. Juliette/Ella – Ella bumps into Kenji. They leave to go on the plane Kenji and crew flew over to Oceania. As such, the romance in Shatter Me is all very PG-13. There is no smut or explicitly sexual content.

this book takes place in march.... bitch im just sayin they better sort their shit out so i can get a HAPPY warner birthday scene Overall, Defy Me is a book that continues to capture the hearts of fans with its emotional intensity and thought-provoking themes. It reinforces the strength of the series in creating characters that readers genuinely care about and offers a promising continuation of the "Shatter Me" saga. But nothing learned within the novellas is crucial to the plot of the main series. They’ll only provide extra details that make the novels more impactful. Juliette is devastated, and the darkness that’s always dwelled within her threatens to consume her. An explosive encounter with unexpected visitors might be enough to push her over the edge.

Dangerous, sexy, romantic, and intense. I dare you to stop reading." – Kami Garcia, #1 New York Times bestselling co-author of the Beautiful Creatures series There are obviously also a few new side characters, and one of them I loved most of all: Nazeera is my Wife™ and I’m so happy that Juliette finally has a much needed female friendship. Nazeera is just too iconic and I can’t wait to see more of her in the next book. I've been waiting so long for this. And since i've been so calm throughout the duration of this review, allow me to release my true feelings: Defy Me is a pivotal installment in the "Shatter Me" series, marked by personal and political revelations. The characters face betrayals, test their loyalties, and navigate a world on the brink of war. The story's arc is one of self-discovery, love, and rebellion, and it sets the stage for the series' future developments and the ultimate resolution of the conflict between the characters and the Reestablishment.
