The Bad

As for the torsion system present in the midfoot, it has been updated including a greater amount of Boost in the central part and the presence of rubber in the outer middle part, which will further improve the stability of the shoe. Between us, it will not affect the behavior of the race much, if not marginally: A tight grip is critical for a racing flat intended for high speeds. In the Boston 9s I could confidently round a tight corner without losing much momentum. I have always questioned whether this system really provides any technical advantage or if just adds to the shoe’s weight. Over the years, it has seen a number of releases, including Boost foam in 2013, cushioning material delivering responsive support that is more durable and provides greater energy return than traditional EVA foam. Tailored Fiber Placement debuted in 2018 with the Solar Boost, and this new design technique, which involves individually placing each fiber of the upper, creates an extra snug fit.

In relation to the previous model Boston 7, the shoe is not very different in terms of aesthetics, with a very similar construction. If we were to evaluate the differences, we would mention the following:

Robbe: Thomas mentioned the “missile” design of the shoe above. I actually found it to be a little bit restrictive in the forefoot. It just didn’t feel quite as comfortable as other uppers, and honestly it’s a little stiff.Thomas: The lacing can take a few misfires before you get it dialed in, and it isn’t the easiest set up to make adjustments. The BOOST has that cushion with a pop, but when you compare it to Skechers Hyperburst, BOOST seems heavy and dated. In this shoe, it still works but you can’t help but wonder how much better the shoe could be with a light foam that delivers the same amount of energy return as the BOOST.

Thomas: The Boston 8 is one of my top daily trainers for 2019. The ride is silky, the cushioning is protective yet responsive, the upper fits without irritation, looks good, and secures the foot at all speeds. I’d put the Boston 8 up against the Pegasus 36, Reebok RunFast Energy and the Rincon. All would be solid choices for “do it all” shoes, daily mileage, tempo runs, and racing.The Stretchweb Continental rubber outsole is very much similar to the 7. The materials are the same but the pattering on the 8 is different. Also, it’s just a good-looking shoe and has that Boston nod without being too upfront about it like last year’s model. From what emerges from Adidas, the choice was made to allow an improvement in the grip on the ground. We applaud the choice, thinking that it was already a strength of this model. In the front, the design remains very similar to the previous one, but it is evident both visually and when worn that the front space has increased, certainly a good way to increase the number of fans of the shoe, but like any change not everyone will be happy: Now, that I have run 50 miles in the Adidas Adizero Boston 8, I have noticed some durability issues and have a couple of critiques, but I am largely pleased with the shoes’ snappy and do-everything-well capabilities.
