About this deal

This chapter sets out the immediate steps needed to support the reopening of the sector over the short-term, in line with broader COVID-19 pandemic developments. If you already know where you want to work, get to know the people there. Introduce yourself to the management team at hotels, restaurants, and other venues that interest you. If you’re not sure where to start, there are a variety of hospitality employment resources available, including: Many hoteliers are discussing how to best approach this group of customers and how to stay attractive in light of changing values and behavior. Hotel chains have launched brands designed to appeal to this demographic segment, often reducing guest room sizes and putting more emphasis on creating convivial common areas. This is reflected in the total number of people on payrolls. Across the economy, between February 2020 and May 2021, over 342,000 people lost their jobs, 81% of which were in the accommodation and food services sector, despite the success and extension of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. [footnote 14] Government support In a market environment where businesses are increasingly facing pressure on resources and margins, we asked hospitality leaders in Europe and the UK about their expectations and predictions for the future.

Hotel business development is the process of creating and executing a plan to increase the revenue and profitability of a hotel. This can involve anything from developing new marketing strategies to expanding the property. A successful hotel business development plan will take into account the unique needs of the hotel and its market. We want to strengthen the hospitality workforce by equipping employees to succeed in a modernised sector, attracting and retaining the right people and providing clear and rewarding career pathways. To do this, we will: Work with the sector to learn the lessons of the pandemic for businesses and enable investment in future resilience measures. Jobs and skills Xenia, a phrase translating to “the sacred rule of hospitality,” is another early sign of the tradition. In ancient Greece, the custom expressed the law or expectation that hosts would offer protection and kindness to strangers. The Greeks understood that a satisfactory hospitality experience relied on hosts respecting their guests and vice versa. Furthermore, they believed displaying proper hospitality was “fundamental to human civilized life.” Modern hospitality may not look like it did thousands of years ago, but its purpose remains the same. Is the hospitality industry growing? We want the hospitality sector to be resourceful and environmentally friendly, and supportive of the government’s ambitious Net Zero goals. To do this, we will work with the sector to: In today’s society, there is always a demand for new ways to have a good time, which is why the hospitality industry is constantly expanding. If you enjoy customer service as well as a sense of humor, you might be a good fit for a career in hospitality. Hospitality Industry Improvement

The concept of developing a hotel is not for the faint of heart. The hotel development process begins with a clear vision, extensive planning, and a lot of perseverance, from concept to ribbon-cutting. Every decision a hotel developer makes now more than ever before must be thoroughly reviewed to ensure the success of the project, the type of hotel it will be built, and how it will attract customers.

Career Options

What leaders can do to ensure hospitality businesses remain competitive Fully take advantage of technology and personalization to create experiences Is there a silver lining? Well, we know that economic downturns make way for innovation and entrepreneurship! The public needs new solutions for new problems, so now may just be the time to start thinking of your next business venture. This strategy represents a joint effort between BEIS, the hospitality sector, and colleagues from across Whitehall, who all recognise how important this sector is to our economy and to our communities. Through this strategy we want to increase the sector’s resilience by helping improve profit margins, ensuring it can fully benefit from our plans to revitalise our high streets and put hospitality at the centre of local plans to regenerate those areas falling behind. We want to strengthen the hospitality workforce by equipping employees to succeed, attracting and retaining the right people and providing clear and rewarding career pathways. And we want to encourage the sector to adopt innovative practices that empower growth, bolster productivity, and support the environment.

Hospitality management jobs encompass the planning, coordination, and execution of events and operations within the hospitality industry. This may include working in hotels, restaurants, catering, resorts, and other event venues. A hospitality manager may be responsible for a wide range of duties, from overseeing event staff and managing budgets, to coordinating event logistics and ensuring a positive experience for guests. One of the largest and most diverse parts of the hospitality industry is the accommodation sector, which includes everything from lodging to event grounds and special event venues. Numerous different types of hotels and venues fall into this sector, including:

The most important stage of the development process is the marketing and operations stage. The hotel will be marketed to potential guests during this time and ready to operate. The development team will also test the facility in this phase to ensure that it is ready for guests. Maintaining And Improving Your Property It's also possible to use the skills from your degree to find employment in a different area to hospitality management, such as human resources, marketing or finance management. Some graduates also choose to set up their own hospitality-related business. Become a go-to person for all things hospitality, from industry trends to the latest marketing techniques. Stay current on the latest to remain relevant in an increasingly competitive field. This strategy, as set out in the following chapters, is the government’s plan for achieving this vision, and complementing the wider objectives outlined in the Plan for Growth, the Tourism Recovery Plan and the High Streets Strategy. Certification will not be required in any setting at Step 4, however the NHS COVID Pass will be made available on the NHS app as a certification tool if businesses and other organisations choose to use certification on a voluntary basis.

After detaching themselves from physical assets, the time seems right for hotel brands to capitalize on their brand equity and find opportunities beyond traditional hotel stays to become universal travel and service brand. Wherever service and design elements are key to the experience delivery, hospitality brands have an opportunity to add and improve on the existing product. A new up-to-date standard for explaining the hospitality business development concept, scope and process. The increasing complexity of the hospitality sector and evolution of its modus operandi - due to the expanded use of technology and data, the evolution of business models with the separation of management from operations or the ever-increasing trend of brands becoming publishers - is leading to the creation of new job profiles, such as asset managers, data scientists or content marketing specialists. We must take the opportunity to ensure that demand for hospitality is strengthened as we come out of the pandemic. We will therefore work with the sector to boost demand by promoting hospitality and enabling businesses to trade more flexibly, for example by extending current easements, as set out in the High Streets Strategy. This will support the sector’s efforts to drive-up demand at the end of the peak season ahead of the winter period, providing a cash buffer.

The Covid-19 crisis has underlined the global importance of the travel and tourism industry economically as well as its interconnection with other industries. From small tour operators to multinational hotel chains and major airlines, everyone in the industry has been impacted and continue to reset and recover. This strategy sits alongside the government’s High Streets Strategy [footnote 1] and its Tourism Recovery Plan [footnote 2], which collectively have a key role to play in levelling up every part of the UK and ensuring we all have a stake in our nation’s future. In addition to these measures, through this strategy we aim to strengthen the hospitality workforce by equipping employees with the skills needed to succeed in a modernised sector, attracting and retaining the right people and providing clearer career pathways. But we need a long-term solution. That is why we have announced that we will bring forward legislation during this parliamentary session to ringfence rent debt accrued from March 2020 for tenants who have been impacted by COVID-19 business closures. Once those restrictions have been lifted, tenants should begin to pay rent according to their lease or as otherwise agreed. We will also introduce a system of binding arbitration for where agreement cannot be reached.
