It is true that he is fearsome and will cut down any and all who stand in his way, but only when provoked or put in a position where it’s kill or be killed. That is then of course paralleled with the way he kills, which is pretty gruesome to say the least. Taking into account the premise, I should have liked Hell’s Paradise more than I actually did, although the art style, messy panels, and Gabimaru (there was something about him I just couldn’t “dig” - if that’s the right word) all made this a fair 3 star read. As they gradually learn more about the island’s past and release the enigmatic power known as Tao, the story’s protagonists—the remaining convicts and executioners—take center stage. They come across and have to fight the members of Lord Tensen, who are actually seven strange creatures thought to be immortal, that rule over the whole island thanks to their possession of the Elixir of Life. The Shogun, who is growing dissatisfied with the initial group’s attempts to obtain the elixir, sends a second group made up of four Asaemon and Shinobi from Iwagakure.
