About this deal

What’s the real benefit of using the GEOPRESS water purifier? The bottle protects from global waterborne pathogens (virus, bacteria, protozoan cysts), pesticides, many chemicals, heavy metals, and even microplastics. Basically… everything. Except maybe the zombie virus. Na… probably that too. Many users have reported that the bottle does leak if it isn’t kept completely upright – which is a bit of an issue if you’re using this water filter bottle for travel, as keeping a bottle upright is nigh on impossible.

Like the Steripen Adventurer, you can filter water in advance as you squeeze dirty water from the provided container through the filter and into your own bottle. Everywhere I roam in this world, I witness the plastic problem first hand. I mean, it’s not a secret at this point right? The culture of plastic pollution is literally killing our planet.

ONE PRESS® GLOBAL PURIFICATION

On balance, neither my dad or my brother have faced similar issues when using the Sawyer Mini and it has rapidly become my dad’s water purification system of choice. Hell, even most of the hostels I’ve stayed in have tap water that needs a water purifier to even think about drinking! For me, the bottle is a little on the small side (I don’t like to travel without a one-liter water bottle), particularly as it can be hard to get the final hundred milliliters from the bottom of the bottle – so capacity is never fully 750ml. However, in my experience, if there’s no kettle where you’re staying (something very common in South America), then it can take a long time to boil a few liters of water.

Obviously, for travellers and certain hikers, the GEOPRESS is an unstoppable tool of the trade, and too good to beat. That said, the GEOPRESS isn’t for everyone, or should I say every activity. As a former Appalachian thru-hiker who spent my nights dreaming of how to cut down on weight, the GEOPRESS is likely to be too heavy and bulky to be considered in an ultralight thru-hiking kit. Water filters– such as those like Brita filters you might find in your home – can remove impurities such as small particles and unpleasant odors such as chlorine (which is often used to kill micro-organisms in the water to ensure that it’s safe to drink in the first place).

While the Water to Go is probably up there as the best filtered water bottle for international travel, there are some downsides. I found on my hiking trip to Pakistan that I always needed every bit of the 24 oz. capacity. Sometimes water sources would be several hours apart. Truth be told, I’d like to see a full 1-litre Grayl filter bottle, but I also realise that the physical bottle might then become bulkier than I’d want to carry. Testing standards: independently tested by a certified laboratory to meet or exceed NSF/ANSI protocol 42 and 53 for pathogen and chemical removal; meets the the United States Environmental Protection Agency's Guide Standard and Protocol for testing microbiological water purifiers.
