Crises is the eighth studio album by English musician and songwriter Mike Oldfield, released on 27 May 1983 on Virgin Records. Oldfield started recording the album towards the end of his 1982 tour supporting his previous record, Five Miles Out. It marked a continuation of Oldfield's experimentation with more accessible music which began in the late 1970s; side one contains the 20-minute "Crises" and side two contains a collection of shorter songs which feature vocalists Maggie Reilly, Jon Anderson, and Roger Chapman. Oldfield produced Crises with drummer Simon Phillips, who also plays on the album. Arrived to side B, you immediately find the big hit: "Monlight Shadow". Oldfield tried several time to resurrect from Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso had a similar vibrato. "Shadow on The Wall" is everything but a masterpiece, Matrix / Runout (Side B stamped, ?= 4 indistinguishable stamped letters/numbers, variant 5): V 2262 B-2-1-A ?

But if some of his previous songs had come across as a tad self-effacing, a bit like makeweights, the songs on Crises sound more fully realised and far more confident – particularly the single Moonlight Shadow which reached number four in the UK and Number One in many European countries. Reilly on the vocals. It is of course not her first appearance on Mike's work (she was passed on the torch happen but it's kinda funny if he did. Jon'sHe belted it out in about one take and it made your hair stand up,” Oldfield says. “And it became a sort of anthem in the Eastern Bloc before Glasnost, before the wall came down, which is great.” Such a performance seemed to galvanise Oldfield’s guitar playing, which sounds tougher and grittier than usual. “Well, it had to be for that song,” he agrees, adding, “but then I always go for it. I really do love Mike Oldfield's work. His albums are always so enriching to the ears with beautiful uses of instruments and pop music is as superb as his more progressive works. The acoustic guitar on this song goes kinda hard sometimes, and it sorta the formula but this remains probably his most known song in the pop world. Easy listening excellently sung

So yeah, this album is excellent. It shows Mike's beautiful music making and his use of many different genres from both the pop If you have a choice, look for "Crises" as the better album. But if you are interested in what Mike's In High Places" begins with the unmistakable and highly irritating tones of Jon Anderson over-ennunciating and missing pitches in a most precise manner... You can almost hear the sincere smile on his face. And the music behind it is atrocious too - an ostinato set over a couple of chords, with a reasonably funky drum beat that could have been performed by a drum machine.
