About this deal

With feeding your laurel hedge, I always think that Growmore is a good all round fertiliser as it is equally balanced in Nitrogen, Phosphorous and Potassium. Ideally the fertilizer you use does not what to be to high in nitrogen as this can cause problems of to much growth especially in the autumn which causes soft growth with is unsuitable for over wintering. Organic fertiliser - This can include things such as animal and green manure e.g leaf mould, fish blood and bone and bone meal. Decomposed material is great for improving the soil structure. It will help to loosen and aerate heavy soils and improve water holding capacity aswell as improving the nutrient and micronutrient content. Organic fertilisers will slowly release nutrients into the soil. This can be an issue when you have a problem with a plant/ deficiency in the soil and it needs to be rectified immediately. It can also be quite hard to tell if you are applying the correct amount. It’s fast-growing, adding 15-60cm of growth every year, and has luscious green leaves, making it a sight to behold. After pruning your cherry laurel, you should apply slow-release plant food. It should contain sulfur and iron to promote deep green leaves. Alternatively, you can also use a water-soluble plant food that is organic. Follow the directions on the label. Feed your plant two months before the first frost date. Otherwise, you should wait until it is a full year before feeding it again. If it is a containerized tree, then you can use a slow-release liquid plant food for the best results.

Put it in a container with appropriate soil - not just compost, and keep it well watered, and ensure it also has good drainage. They need shade unless they have the right conditions at their feet.

Containing beneficial nutrients such as magnesium, potassium, nitrogen and more. Domestically, seaweed fertilisers are most commonly used by gardeners who wish to avoid animal-derived or chemical fertilisers, whilst cultivating the long-term benefits of organic gardening. The common laurel (and there are many different types) however, does appear to be significantly more poisonous and Due to the attractive spring laurels, blooms consider fertilizing your indoor or outdoor laurels with all-purpose fertilizer during early spring as laurels are in their high growth rate phase.

You may want to take cuttings before you do this, read our section below on propagation. Light sandy soils tend to be hungrier. Clay soil is much more fertile, so needs less fertiliser. Garden compost Plants like rhododendrons are classed as ‘ericaceous’ and have to be in completely ericaceous soil. Others are referred to as ‘acid loving’ and prefer to grow in an acidic soil but can tolerate a slightly more alkaline soil than ericaceous plants. Ericaceous

This Espoma fertilizer is made with feather meal and pasteurized poultry manure, a nitrogen-rich fertilizer formula that results in greener grass. It has an NPK ratio of 8-0-0, which promotes early-season lawn growth, and it also contains 3 percent calcium to protect lawns from disease. The formula is available in a 30-pound bag and can feed up to 5,000 square feet of lawn. Plus, the granular application is a breeze. Dilute a capful (20ml) in 4.5 litres (1 gallon) of water. The potash content is high compared to the nitrogen and phosphorous. Homemade comfrey tea is very similar in content. Gro-Sure All Purpose Soluble Plant Food (12.5-5-25) Often used on established plants, because it contains all three elements. Keep away from plant stems and leaves and fork it in. Fish, blood and bone is good for adding to the ground to raise fertility or increase soil nutrients following a hungry crop. Does not affect flower and fruiting as nitrogenous feeds can do. Bonemeal (3.15.0) Fill an 8cm wide pot with multi-purpose and insert three evenly spaced cuttings in it about 4cm / 1.5in deep. If you have any cut flowers in the house when you prune your Spotted Laurel, use the variegated leaves as foliage in the plant arrangement. GROWING SPOTTED LAURELS IN CONTAINERSGardening course for beginners from GardenAdvice Become a gardener with the GardenAdvice Gardening Course. Actually, trimming unwanted branches can rejuvenate your Laurel. Dead and damaged branches will be using up your plant’s precious resources, so it’s time for them to go! And prune the greenery every 2 months or so. This will encourage new growth, making your Laurel bigger than ever! Final Word If your Laurel’s needing a little loving, your first port of call is fertiliser. But consider whether your plant’s young or old because this will influence the fertiliser you need! If that doesn’t work, try more frequent watering. also rain water in fairly neutral and good to use for acid loving plants, these plants hate our limey alkaline tap water which does no good for the soil either. I think your spot is a bit too sunny for these guys if you have to water them lots, it might be worth considering a differnt variety altogether.. Tomatoes, strawberries and bedding plants need a potassium-rich feed to encourage flowers, such as Tomarite.
