About this deal

This speed was aided by the fact that the whole world was immersive and enjoyable to read. Steeped in Welsh mythology, the bone houses are far from the only magical things in this world, which also has fun things like pwca (ghost/fairy/forest creature things) and sea monsters. There is a recurring line of thought about the corruption of men, the consequences of when humans stopped trusting the fair folk, and how out of touch the nobility are with the dire state of small towns like Ryn’s, all of which helped create an intoxicating blend of whimsy and darkness that filled this dark fairytale. I think I made the best choice for my Halloween week by reading this epic, fantastic journey, with the sweet touch of Welsh folklore and urban tales introduces a rough, strong, invincible, brave heroine Aderyn (let’s call him Ryn), the gravedigger! You know it? Oh, yeah, duh, English teacher." She looked at him like a broken toy. "I mean, you used to be. Tresa felt bad about what happened." A year ago, accusations of an affair with a pupil cost Mark Bradley his teaching job. Now the student's sister has been found dead, and Mark faces a hostile town convinced of his guilt. Hilary Bradley is determined to protect her husband, but digging into the girl's secrets proves dangerous. Her only ally is a quirky Florida detective named Cab Bolton. When Sarah Noble investigates, with the help of forensic anthropologist Sarah and a boy called Elliot. What will they discover, and will Sarah survive after putting herself in danger? On the other hand, I kept getting yanked out of the plot by little things, little implausibilies, in my humble opinion. A community who doesn't seem to believe the girl with no mention ever of a medical exam. Uh huh. After all, a young person simply cannot write anything that realistic. Bullshit. We have a dead girl floating in the water; the sea has seemingly destroyed any evidence of sexual activity, but not the skin under the fingers? The action of the hand in the sand in the water didn't act as a nail cleaner? Riiigght. What was this 16 year old doing in Florida without a parent anyway? Who in the hell lets their 16 year old drive to Florida from Wisconsin with their boyfriend? We have a community who has judged, tried and condemned to death an individual and his wife all because they - the community - deemed themselves judge, jury and executioner. A sheriff who's duty is to protect the innocent - until proven guilty - who's as bad as the rest of them. Trite and annoying. An out of town inspector who is trying to get to the bottom and never questions why an entire community keeps pointing him at one individual. I'm no detective, but if I were, I'd be digging into that towns past because it screams "cover-up". Often I find these types of stories trite or repetitive- the town with secrets and people willing to kill to keep them sort of thing. Not in this case, however. I really couldn't wait to see the end, and how an author ends a story is in large part a measure of their ability. Some writers write the ending first, or so I have heard. Cab Bolton comes to Door County to unravel the mystery of Glory's death, but that's not the only secret Door County is hiding.

Full of twists, so it's impossible to stop reading ... I didn't figure out whodunit and kept suspecting the wrong character the whole time' Reader review 5 stars

Search and Book

This might’ve been better off as a series if the plot wasn’t so predictable. I'm especially talking about her missing father being not so missing

A body is placed in a temporary grave, and then sometime later the bones are removed, cleaned and placed in the ossuary – the final resting place, a common practice for both Catholic and Eastern Orthodox communities. It's hard to believe a story following a gravedigger and the walking dead could be beautiful, but in the capable hands of Emily Lloyd-Jones apparently it is. Mark's body tightened with anxiety. He knew he shouldn't be here. He had to get away before this got worse, before anyone saw them together. This was a wonderful police procedural with a terrific cast of interesting characters. I didn't know it was part of a series but it was definitely a stand-alone read and I enjoyed the story so much that I am looking forward to reading future books and also the previous ones I missed. The storyline and writing were very good and I was intrigued about the mysterious Slayton and what secrets it held. It's not often one finds a good detective story with believable supernatural vibes blended together and this book had both. The supernatural elements were not overbearing in any manner but eerily and quietly done. Some of the crimes were pretty blatant and horrific, not for sensitive readers, that's for sure. The characters were well-written and likeable for the most part while the evil baddies were completely dispicable but fun to read about. There were plenty of red herrings and twisted turns to make this book unputdownable (is that a word? If not it should be). Sheriff Reich - it's obvious the sheriff from Glory's small town of Door County is hiding secrets, but is he involved in her death?

This multilayered book is full of clever side stories and the depths of characterizations which intertwine and mingle to create an unsettling and hair-raising atmosphere where the tension can be cut with a knife. Surprisingly elegant and atmospheric, but definitely rough around the edges. Zombies meets ancient Wales meets myth meets....traditional YA trappings. As the facts emerge about the murdered girl's past, Cab's suspicion grows that others are involved in her death. But there are people willing to kill to keep the truth hidden - and to make sure Mark pays the ultimate price for a young girl's murder. She saw you and Hilary in the auditorium. That's why she choked. She was really upset. She couldn't concentrate knowing you were there." However, to reiterate, in the past St Cuthbert’s churchyard, like numerous others, was small, so space was limited.
