About this deal

Designers captured ornate, cinematic details, like Jabba’s microphone, trophy heads, and other sculptures, then took it to a whole new level, imagining other necessities for a crime boss’s floating yacht. “The designers went into this really thinking of functionality and playability,” Dern says. “Our goal in our role here is, how accurate can we get? Whether it is scouring for an old set of blueprints, utilizing archived models, published materials, and/or entertainment footage, all of which helps guide us in our decision making and ultimately to the final result."

The first of the completely new minifigures we get is Ree-Yees (a name I know compliments to Star Wars Galaxies), our three-eyed thug destined to die a fiery death (along with a lot of prisoners and enslaved people like Max Rebo) when they blow up the barge. I’m all for more aliens in the Star Wars figure lexicon, and this one certainly doesn’t let us down. Plus, with a molded head, no alt face! There’s really not a lot I can say about this character. While I love to see yet another obscure character get made, and they did a good job on his head, the rest of him is a little bit… blue (dark azure, technically). I get that the character is totally naked and blue, I would have liked to see a bit of detail on the torso or legs. Of course, now seven years later, we’re getting a new Sail barge set, the fourth in what is almost a mini-theme of overpriced Jabba the Hut sets. It begs the question: are the new Jabba the Hutt figures painted by blind Tibetan monks? What else would justify the high prices for these sets… wait, the Rancor set was high too. Maybe there’s some secret deal to charge fans of the OT more for these things, I don’t know. Star Wars: Return of the Jedi arrived in theaters on May 25, 1983, bringing an end to the original trilogy in memorable fashion. Marking its 40 th anniversary, StarWars.com presents “Jedi at 40,” a series of articles celebrating the film that brought us Jabba’s palace, Ewoks, Luke Skywalker’s final confrontation with the Emperor and Darth Vader, and so much more. Jabba’s area has tiles under it now. To be honest, I don’t know if there were colored tiles under him in the movie… my eye was typically fixed on Carrie Fisher in that gold bikini. We do get some dark green 2×2 tiles, so there is that. Mostly, though, it’s empty space.

The principle of HasLab is it's special. It is special and kind of ridiculous,” Evans says. So in limiting releases, designers have the chance to create mini masterpieces. “It's important to keep it meaningful and not have one running constantly.”

The most obvious thing to be excited for in this set if you’re an owner of the previous Sail Barge is the new set of minifigures. How can you not be excited to see Max Rebo in minifig form? That’s a pure callout to fans of the OT. Sure, we still don’t have the rest of the crazy band and that terrible song from the Special Edition, but we did get Oola in the Jabba’s Palace set. Can I make up some of my nerd cred from the whole green lightsaber debacle in my RGS review by saying I know the names of these minifigs without having to go to the hive of scum and villainy that is Wookiepedia? For instance, to capture the glamorous vintage-inspired box art showing the barge in full-color glory, 14 Hasbro employees spent 120 hours on the photoshoot, which included bringing in 900 pounds of sand to recreate the Dune Sea and the creation of one custom, posable Sarlacc. Every detail was accounted for and made for active play, Dern says. The prison cell, for example, includes a tiny set of chains that can be used to secure an action figure of your choosing. And there are plenty of other trap doors, hidden compartments, and removable pieces. The finished piece will be comparable to a model, the makers say. “The good thing on the Vintage Collection is it demands extra detail,” Evans says. “We've probably put two to three layers of plastic to really get that detail. It's almost like sort of a kit...a much more intricate design.” A male Twi'lek, Bib Fortuna hailed from Ryloth, the homeworld of his species. [1] Fortuna was born to a prominent clan that had close ties to the criminal underworld, though his more politically minded cousin Beezer resented his family's associations. [6] Before coming into the service of Hutt crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure, Fortuna worked as a slave trader, one who was focused on members of his own species. He became rich from selling his fellow Twi'leks into slavery. [9] At some point, Fortuna came into Jabba's service and competed against Bidlo Kwerve to become the Hutt's majordomo. [10] Fortuna also gave Jabba his pet rancor [11] Pateesa [12] as a birthday present. [11] Ultimately, Fortuna succeeded and claimed the job whereas Kwerve ended up as an early victim of the rancor. Ultimate Collector Series: Jabba’s Sail Barge

In the end only 8,810 units were produced. This is well below the 100,000 mark for most mass release action figures. Jabba’s Sail Barge is undoubtedly both one of the most sought after and RAREST of Star Wars toys ever. Honestly, the worst thing about this feature is that it takes away from look and design of the set, chews up piece count that could have been used elsewhere to give us a much better model. It used to be that the use of the big, ugly corner slopes is what really bugged me. Then I built the set, and realized that they were just someone being lazy after having a model ruined. Inside, we still have the little kitchen and prison-ish areas. The lost space inside was mostly taken away from the prison, which is now fixed (the old one had a removable grate). I still don’t really get the kitchen part, but it is what it is. I am glad to see the glowing cubes, spider, and the like all gone.
