About this deal

Whether you’re looking to upgrade your home theater system or simply want a versatile receiver that won’t break the bank, the Onkyo TX-NR595 is definitely worth considering. Onkyo Tx-Nr696 On the 750 eco mode had a detrimental effect on sound quality, clarity suffered - one very obvious defect was distortion added to the apple tv sounds when moving through menus. The upper tier receivers don't have this problem fortunately. Denon is one of the leading manufacturers of high-end audio/video equipment and home theater systems. Their receivers are highly regarded for their excellent sound quality, build quality, and features. In general, Denon receivers offer great value for the price. Award-winning Denon Setup Assistant and graphical user interface: Easy and intuitive out-of-box setup experience.

Speaking of apps, the AVR-X3700H is also controllable by the Denon 2016 AVR Remote app for smartphones. I found the HEOS app much more user-friendly though. The 2016 AVR Remote app was unreliable and buggy in my experience. When it did work, the functionality was limited. Most of the time if I’m out of the IR range of the AVR, the HEOS app worked fine. If I’m within IR range of the AVR, the remote works fine. One of the biggest differences between these two options is that the Onkyo TX-NR797 offers support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. This means that it can create a more immersive sound experience than the Denon AVR-X3700H. If you’re looking for a receiver that can really bring your movies and music to life, then the Onkyo TX-NR797 is worth considering. Even slower songs, such as this, come across with a sense of momentum. Obviously, it can’t compete musically with even a budget stereo amplifier but, all the same, our listening time with this AVR is so enjoyable that it’s difficult to tear ourselves away long enough to start telling you how much we like this receiver. Verdict A not entirely unimportant innovation or improvement is the disabling of internal power amplifiers. This allows the AVR-X3700H to be used as a preamplifier for external power amplifiers. As usual with Denon, the AVR-X3700H has another speaker configuration for alternative storage of speaker setups. Unfortunately, neither FM nor DAB+ is available, which is why this device can only act as an amplifier and not as a receiver. Denon AVR-X3700H Review: Streaming & Multimedia New DSP for more processing power: With 11.2ch max audio processing, connect an external power amplifier to the AVC-X3700H to power two extra channels to enjoy a 11.2ch home theatre setup.Popping noise volume and frequency has been reduced with this new receiver. Apple TV popping noise is an issue with Apple TV 4K probably as said by everettT. I mean I sometimes hear low volume pop from one of my speaker( this changes randomly) I'm not saying its perfect, but I'd estimate in the worst case, passive bi-amping with the 3700 is as good as adding 25 watts to its output. Depending on the content it could be like adding 50. Also added via a post-launch firmware update was Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization technology. It's designed to offer the effect of height channels even when no physical speakers are available, and now features alongside standard Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and DTS Virtual:X in a quartet of 3D audio software Denon has made available. And if you have any Alexa-enabled devices in your home, you can use them to control the receiver with your voice. For those using traditional speaker setups over a wireless setup or sound bar, the home theater receiver remains the best option for powering your speakers and consolidating your various media devices into one central unit.

It really comes down to two things: sound quality and ease of use. If you prioritize sound quality above all else, then the Onkyo TX-NR797 is the better option. It has a more detailed and nuanced sound that will please even the most discerning audiophile. If you’re running a top-end soundbar, the AVR-X3700H doesn’t provide a tidy solution for managing multiple rooms with your wireless sound systems. It relies on hardwiring to take full advantage of its feature set. Denon's AVR-X3700H helps deliverexciting home theater soundfor movies and TV shows, video games, and music. Set this flexible receiver up your wayWhen it comes to choosing between the Onkyo TX-NR797 and the Denon AVR-X3700H, there are a few things to consider. Both options offer excellent features, but the Onkyo TX-NR797 may be the better choice for some. Similarly, users can also take advantage of a new selective pre-amplifier mode that allows each speaker pair to be assigned to ‘Pre-out only’ for use with an external power amp. Previously this option could only be activated for all or none of the outputs. But now if you decide to upgrade the amplification of your front pair, for example, you can do so. Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) HDMI support: Through the main HDMI output, connect your TV with eARC HDMI support to allow uncompressed and object-based audio formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X directly from your smart TV app to your AV amplifier. There is a lot of anticipation for this review as I gave its last year mode, the AVR-X3600H my best rating of any AVR tested. Alas, I reviewed that late in its design cycle so availability is very poor. Hope is that this replacement unit doesn't regress in measured performance while adding features. So let's get into that.

To the topic at hand: you're both still missing my point. I'm not saying passive bi-amping with a receiver doing all 4 channels is as good as passive bi-amping with the receiver doing 2 channels and an external amp doing 2 channels. I'm not saying passive bi-amping (of any combination) will perform as well or better as an amplifier rated for twice the power Use all nine channels in a 5.1.4 or 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos® or DTS:X™ system, or go with a more modest surround sound setup and repurpose the extra channels for music in another zone. In many ways, it all stems from that upturn in power. It isn’t so much the fact that this is an altogether more powerful amplifier than the Award-winning AVR-X3500H – already a mighty receiver in its own right – but its muscle feels leaner and punches tend to sting more. What a sigh of relief that the Denon AVR-X3700H performns on par with the later year mode, 3600H. The other "2020 year" Denon AVRs we have tested have had worse performance, leaving the 3600H as the best performing AVR until now. So buy the 3700H with peace of mind knowing that it performs quite well (for an AVR). Of course be mindful of what other features the units above it have which you may want, top of which is more power.

ULTIMATE HOME THEATRE EXPERIENCE - 8K READY

So it seems this unit may have been released not fully debugged. I was certainly concerned about this issue, and hope it does not surface again.
