Another bit of advice I’d like to add is to avoid purchasing used equipment when constructing your chameleon lighting.
This chameleon is sometimes called the Brown Leaf chameleon. These names come from the creature’s appearance. Their coloration – brown, green, dark red, olive, or combinations of these – and their high, flat bodies do make them resemble a dead leaf. Native to eastern Madagascar, these small chameleons have impressive horns and spiny scales. The best artificial heat source for chameleons is a light bulb that produces UVA rays, like an incandescent halogen light bulb. Temperatures within a chameleon enclosure should exist in gradients. Your pet needs to be able to move away from their more intensely-heated basking spot into cooler and sometimes shaded areas. One of the purposes of the plant life in your terrarium is to facilitate this temperature gradient. These fancy veiled chameleons are almost exclusively available from dedicated breeders. Nighttime heating is not inherently necessary for your terrarium unless your home’s nighttime temperature falls below the minimum seasonal threshold for your chameleon. If a heat source must be introduced, include a ceramic heat emitter (CHE) in your enclosure. They emit infrared light and will not disturb the sleep cycle of your chameleon.Babies are cuter and cheaper than adults. Still, they’re significantly more fragile and susceptible to death or illness. Prey/Meal Size– Sometimes, chameleons will eat an insect that’s too large – or they’ll eat too many small insects. This almost always results in regurgitation. Wait 24 hours, then attempt feeding a smaller-than-normal meal of smaller-than-normal insects.
