Photo: Mike CameronIn fact there are two new C414s, the C414B XLS and the C414 XLII, though the only performance difference between the two models is that the XLII has a more pronounced presence peak than the XLS. A slight additional lift above 3kHz gives this model a slightly more airy and open top end that is useful when miking vocals to capture a contemporary 'crisp' sound, or when miking instruments at a distance where the high lift helps compensate for the natural HF loss that occurs at a distance. Visually, the XLS model has a silver grille matched by silver engraved legending, while the XLII has a gold mesh and legend. As the mics are so similar, I'll simply refer to them as the C414 until the time comes to describe their tonal differences. On a practical note, the LEDs, which are fairly discreet, help in setting up under poor lighting conditions, and also avoid the need for clunky slide switches, but I can't help feeling they could be a disadvantage for TV work, where you need the mic to be as inconspicuous as possible. The Chancellor is a popular aircraft, so it has an extensive range of aftermarket parts and modifications. The 414A can be upgraded with the usual performance boosters such as vortex generators, which are highly recommended. The engines were taken from the 402, with the only changes made to the setup were the inclusion of parts for bleed-air cabin pressurization, and different intercoolers. Each engine spun a constant speed, three-blade McCauley propeller. Neumann has enjoyed a legendary reputation since the earliest days of the recording industry. While not a vintage microphone from the brand’s golden years, the TLM-102 large-diaphragm condenser microphone still fits in very well with the brand’s heritage both in quality and looks. Both C414 XLS and XLII are well known for their tremendous sound character and top-notch clarity. Of course, the XLII is even better sounding than the XLS ad that’s why it is more popular among the vocals. Both C414 XLII and XLS come with shimmering frequencies for treble.Most of the users of this microphone have complained about the grille as it can easily be dented. You need to be very careful in handling your mic. However, owners should expect depreciation, and the price to decrease over time. These aircraft aren’t like the 172s. The applications are smaller and they have maintenance issues, so the price does fall. The length of the cabin was increased by 16 inches (40.64 cm), an extra window was installed, electronic propeller synchrophasing was made standard, and various ARC 400-series avionics equipment was included. This pattern is used to capture the sounds from wider sources that are in a particular direction like a choir or live band. Cardioid AKG, Hi. Is there anything wrong with using this mic for recording classical piano? I ask because it says here that it may be used for piano/strings, but in the owner's manual the XLII is not recommended for this, but only the XLS. Sincerely, Colin This LED light strip has a very handy feature to detect clipping and peak overloads. The light will switch to red from green even a faint distortion occurs from clipping.
