About this deal

Spanish: Stevenson, Noelle (2021). Nimona. Gonzalo Quesada (1ª edición: julio 2021ed.). Bilbao. ISBN 978-84-18215-50-6. OCLC 1282156963. {{ cite book}}: CS1 maint: location missing publisher ( link)

All in all, this was a super-fast read but it was TOTALLY worth it! “Aw yeah, let's make some evil plans!” Stevenson’s insistence that Nimona remain recognizable in the movie extended to aspects of her character design, color scheme, and movement. “One of the things that was really important to me was her body type,” he said. “She’s chubby and she’s curvy, but she’s never sexualized, and she’s gender-nonconforming. She just has her own unique style. She chooses to look this way. And so that was something I just really wanted to make sure — no matter how much [the story] might change in the adaption, that that was something that stayed true.”

Did we miss something on diversity?

But overall THIS WAS SO ENTERTAINING and fun and just absolutely fantastic. Nimona’s character was the highlight of the book for me. The book’s version of Ballister, for his part, is a much knottier character than he is in the movie — more vengeful, more competent and capable, more principled, more knowledgeable. And yet in his own way, he’s just as helpless as his movie counterpart. If anything, being a much richer character makes his helplessness in the face of Nimona’s actions even more tragic and evocative. Kit, Borys (June 11, 2015). "Fox Animation Nabs 'Nimona' Adaptation With 'Feast' Director (Exclusive)". The Hollywood Reporter. Archived from the original on June 19, 2018 . Retrieved June 11, 2015.From there, the graphic novel and the movie have some major elements in common, including a spectacular climax full of action and destruction, as well as the fall of the Institute and its duplicitous leader. The graphic novel did not have the Gloreth statue, so that particular plot point (pardon the pun) doesn't occur. Instead, Ballister has to use his science know-how (from Blitzmeyer) against Nimona to save her, and though it does work, his betrayal cuts deep. Even with a heart-to-heart attempt at reconciliation. I’ve been meaning to read this graphic novel for a few months now and I’m really happy that I finally did. Nimona is chubby. And she's a shapeshifter and could choose to look like ANYONE but still chooses to be her chubby little redhead self. That is such a powerful message for readers. The art perfectly suited the tone of the story, and the rich and contrasting colors made the artwork stand out in the best ways. I would’ve preferred the lettering just a bit bigger most of the time, but it's otherwise readable and legible. There are some unanswered questions, but that's expected being a short graphic novel. I would definitely say I was left wanting more. What do you mean, there are rules? Why would you follow the rules? Isn’t that the whole point of being a villain, that you don’t follow the rules?”
