About this deal

Right, onto the good stuff. The Emperor's Children in this novel are diabolically depraved, the sub-story of an Imperial Fists captain captured and turned into a monster by Fabius Bile being particularly repulsive to read, and Graham McNeill handles the Emperor's Children side of this novel with practiced excellence. The crew of the Sisypheum, loyalists who are attempting to prevent the traitors from obtaining the devastating weapons Fulgrim tells Perturabo are hidden in the Eye of Terror, are a motley crew of vengeful Iron Hands with a mortally wounded captain they keep in stasis, accompanied by a Salamanders Apothecary and a Raven Guard commando named Nykona Sharrowkyn, who is pure awesomeness concentrated into a character. Over the course of the novel Sharrowkyn puts a bullet through Fulgrim's head, rams two swords through Fabius Bile and becomes the first person ever to kill Lucius in a duel. He is my favourite Warhammer character, period. This had to be done with the utmost secrecy, for by this time the corrupted senior officers had become powerful, volatile and self-obsessed with the pursuit of their individual pleasures. Also, many of these senior officers carried a loathing for Lucius, whom they viewed as a despised upstart. Through his skilled oratory, the swordsman was able to persuade his mercurial brothers that the primarch was not himself. He further challenged their egos and stroked their vanity, tempting them into boldly capturing their primarch. Shortly after, the Brotherhood of the Phoenix ambushed Fulgrim, and despite taking several casualties, managed to subdue their lord by rendering him unconscious. Veritas Ferrum is a precursor to The Damnation of Pythos ( Book 30), in which the Ferrum arrives at Istvaan while the battle is raging and then retreats in the face of certain annihilation. In truth, the Angel Exterminatus was not on the world. The entire journey was simply a ruse on the part of Fulgrim to steal his brother's life force and use it as the final component he needed to achieve elevation to the rank of Daemon Prince in the service of his patron Chaos God Slaanesh. It becomes even easier to sympathize with Perturabo when he is juxtaposed with Fulgrim, his brother and fellow conspirator in Horus’s civil war against the Imperium. Fulgrim was once one of the few brothers with which Perturbabo shared a thread of camaraderie, someone who understood Perturabo’s own dedication to perfection — but that was long ago. Those who read FULGRIM will know that Fulgrim and his legion, the Emperor’s Children, have fallen far in their worship of the Chaos god Slaanesh. Perturabo is disgusted by the devotion of the Emperor’s Children to the pursuits of the flesh and their degrading discipline. When Fulgrim approaches Perturabo with a quest to obtain alien super weapons, Perturabo fully expects he is being deceived in some manner but the prospect is tantalizing enough to secure the support of the Iron Warriors. https://ipaudio6.com/wp-content/uploads/K40K/1%20SER/HORUS%20HERESY/23%20Angel%20Exterminatus/30.mp3

Writer’s Commentary

Lucius slew the wounded Demeter just after he realised with horror the full extent of his mistake and Lucius' betrayal. With his place restored in the ranks of the Traitors, Lucius then challenged Saul Tarvitz to a one-on-one duel to finally determine who was the better warrior. Tarvitz emerged the victor, but Lucius fled the battle and returned to the arms of his Traitor Legion, having fulfilled his side of the bargain. Lucius was always defined even before his corruption by Chaos as a superlative swordsman, more skilled than any other Astartes of the Emperor's Children Legion. This skill was Lucius' pride and joy and the source of his extreme egotism. Unfortunately, Lucius was immature, selfish, egotistical and impulsive. These were initially qualities that he recognised as flaws and hoped to overcome with the aid of his friend Saul Tarvitz.

Far from upset at the death of the much-despised Eidolon, the ascendant champion of the Emperor's Children, Lucius, took note of yet another example of Fulgrim's increasingly capricious behaviour. Contemplating upon the change in his lord, Lucius was inspired to investigate further after receiving a series of dark dreams concerning the painting of the primarch that hung in La Fenice, which had been cordoned off and sealed by a detachment of the Phoenix Guard after the opera known as the Maraviglia had worked its Slaaneshi corrupting influence upon the Legion. I The Solar War • II The Lost and the Damned • III The First Wall • Sons of the Selenar • IV Saturnine • Fury of Magnus • V Mortis • VI Warhawk • VII Echoes of Eternity • Garro: Knight of Grey • VIII The End and the Death ( Volume I • Volume II • Volume III) Lucius would later take part in the joint expedition comprised of both the Emperor's Children and the Iron Warriors Traitor Legions into the Eye of Terror to seek out the forbidden xenos weapon known as the Angel Exterminatus. It had been hidden in the grave of its doom, a weapon of such power that the stars themselves turned upon it rather than allow it to escape its prison. The destination of the joint fleet of Iron Warriors and Emperor's Children vessels was the lost Aeldari world of Iydris, a world said to have been favoured by the goddess Lileath. Over the next few weeks, Lord Commander Cyrius underwent a hideous transformation. His mane of hair fell out in clumps, his eyes changed colour, and the copulating figures that decorated his armour writhed and flowed to depict a host of laughing daemons. To the commander's mounting horror, dark lines appeared under his flesh, pushing outward with each passing night until they formed a maze of scar tissue. His screams were a source of great interest to his fellow Emperor's Children, but none came to his aid. In the lord commander's fate they saw the hand of Slaanesh at work. McNeill sends out Fulgrim to work with Purterabo to discover the distressing Angel Exterminatus, which Fulgrim intents to utilize to make himself godlike in power. A little core of Iron Warriors triggers to attempt in addition to stop them.
