About this deal

To make sure it wasn’t an issue with the motion sensors in my joycons, I started poking around the Switch’s setting for test and calibration to which everything seemed to be fine, when I noticed the ‘update firmware’ option for the Joycons, something I had never considered to do since launch!

Everything from the later 3D releases such as Virtual Cop to the to the classics like Operation Wolf. When you have another player, you can use another joy-con, and both of you can be differentiated on-screen through either a red or blue reticle. We opted for a strategy of ‘you take the left side, I’ll take the right’, but the continual bullet slipping through or your partner shooting an explosive that takes off some health means it gets a bit of a free-for-all and everyone for themselves.Remember, even if the Joy-Cons reticule’s start to wander or aren’t centred, all you need to do is press the B button to re-centre it or go to pause menu and re-calibrate it there. It’s in a first-person perspective, similar to games like Lethal Enforcers where it’s like you’re on a conveyor belt, only without the duck and cover mechanic. The graphics are bright and colourful and look great on the Switches’ screen, plus the frame-rate is pretty solid. The game sees you blasting your way through 60 levels, 200 secondary objectives, all the while taking down the Wild West’s most wanted. However, I didn’t want both reticules on screen at the same time, unless I was playing with friends.

Forget about men with no names, folk looking for redemption or new sheriffs in town – this is all about shooting stuff quickly and efficiently as possible. Not only that but each level has secondary objectives to complete such as shooting 8 incoming bullets, shooting 15 crates or boxes or shooting a certain number of enemies. We aren’t spoilt for choice with this type of game on the Switch, let alone other platforms, but regardless, this is a title definitely worth playing, and I think it takes the mantle of light gun games for me until Sega Ages attempt a H ouse of the Dead 2 port. You either duel weld two joy-cons and pretend your rogue cowboy or pass one them controllers to a friend or partner and have someone along for the ride. Upon starting up, you’ll notice you can slide the analogue stick to the right which can let you select any one of the 60 levels you’ve unlocked. If you can pick this up in a sale knowing what you getting into, you will have some fun with it if you like the genre, but frustrating controls really make it hard to whole heartedly recommend.

I must admit, a handful of times I purposely shot the odd bartender who just so happened to step out into the middle of a gunfight. Because there are a lot of innocent bystanders amongst the crowd, you’ll find that they are all differentiated by a colour outline to indicate their threat level. After your payment has been processed, the content will be downloaded to the applicable system linked to the respective Nintendo Account, or respective Nintendo Network ID in the case of Wii U and Nintendo 3DS family systems. The positives I can give is the the game looks and sounds great, there is some good variety in the levels, and assuming you are not playing a Switch Lite, you have two joycons which allows you to play two player without the need for extra accessories. You can forget about boring stories, complicated controls and irritating tutorials, and jump right into a mind blowing, high-speed action. Since the days of Mad Dog McCree back in the arcades, then on Sega CD, there’s never really been a decent automated western shooter.

I couldn’t take screenshots or video capture anymore as when you’re using one Joy-Con for singleplayer, the other one becomes inactive straight away. Mad Bullets is a typical title I had never heard of, and it was only through my own ventures, that I found this title and have to say that this is one of those gems that you need to look into. Summary Mad Bullets, the wackiest shooter is here to put your reflexes and laughing muscles to an intensive test. To aim, you need to move your Joy-Con around thanks to the motion controls this will allow you to aim. There are a ton of levels to play through with a huge variety of enemies to shoot and innocent people to save! Mad Bullets is an old school arcade-type in that you’ll head through town and all you need to focus on is your aim and shooting those darn varmints. The iOS version controls with touch screen and the PC version controls with a mouse… BOTH OF THESE COULD HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED WITH THE SWITCH’S FUNCTIONALITY! I really do miss those as you can’t really replicate this type of game on a widescreen TV accurately, but the joy-con is your next best bet, and it works quite well. Upon starting your Wild West rampage, you’ll need to calibrate your Joy-Cons by shooting in the centre of the screen and the upper left-hand corner.
