I am a Tiger is one of three picture books he has with Macmillan, who have teamed him with award-winning illustrator Ross Collins. He writing stories on a variety of topics, from quiet bedtime reads, to wild, imaginative, wondrous tales. He went on to study illustration at the Glasgow School of Art, graduating in 1994 and in the same year he won the Macmillan Children’s Book Prize for the The Sea Hole . to his 3 year old brother, who much to my horror was dutifully obeying, running towards him with a rotten old stick in his mouth. A charming story to read together, with simple text and bold illustrations, this is a lovely book to read aloud and to share.

Mouse is utterly convinced he's a tiger, so convinced, in fact, that he's convincing to Snake, Raccoon, Fox, and others. Mouse has a three-quel publishing in August (and I have plans for her that I’m hoping might happen one day). Maybe just something sensitive about that in the fake news era where the world is being destroyed by people with this kind of baseless conviction? He grew up in Norfolk, and on rainy days he would stay indoors and draw until his pens ran out of color.And so begins the second half of the book as the mouse uses its zany logic to define the other animals in the story.

He proudly stands there, arms folded with a convincing air but when challenged by a ring-tailed lemur and a fox that tigers are bigger and more ferocious than him he realises that perhaps he is not a tiger after all. This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally). The other animals don’t believe him at first, but he manages to demonstrate that he can growl like a tiger, climb trees like a tiger and even hunt for his lunch.
