About this deal

The Daemons finishes the set and probably for me Jon Pertwee's best serial seeing The Doctor and UNIT take on The Master who is trying to control an ancient evil power. With the exception of the original Claws, all of these releases took place after the change of BBC logo, and had reversable sleeves to show the older white BBC logo, enabling fans to have a matching set with other older release.

Although they’re subsequently reinvented for the Tom Baker era, Letts and Dicks present an intriguing glimpse into the Doctor’s civilization in these and subsequent stories. There is no better tv that was created than Doctor Who and the Classic series has stories that made you think but also wished you were part of the adventures in time and space. In comes Katy Manning as Jo Grant, a more traditional companion than the outgoing Liz Shaw, and the Brigadier’s vague roster of UNIT troops is narrowed down to Captain Mike Yates (Richard Franklin) who wasn’t in the previous year and Sergeant Benton (John Levene) who appeared as far back as The Invasion, but only as a sort of glorified extra. Much has been written about Delgado’s stunningly menacing performance over the decades, but it bears repeating how utterly unique and immense his presence is from his first appearance. Can’t say it’s a rights issue either as they could easily include the Who snippets without as much as a frame of Disney footage.

And Colony in Space, whilst a tad overlong, has some clever social commentary about the dangers of colonialism peppered throughout its tale of sinister mining corporations and alien doomsday weapons. not a the great season by any means, a massive step down from season 14 I have always thought that Williams was a victim of things outside his control .Sadly The Daemons hasn’t seen any improvement in the picture quality , still with washed out colours . Of course, all of this is viewed with the gift of retrospect; a viewer watching week-to-week would not have known that the Master would be appearing in every story and could be forgiven for thinking that he wasn’t going to appear in Colony in Space, where he doesn’t crop up until episode 4.

Caroline John’s brainy boffin companion Liz Shaw was out, Katy Manning’s eager, bright-eyed Jo Grant was in and the Doctor was to face a formidable and persistent new enemy in the former of rogue Time Lord the Master, played with aching urbanity by the suave Roger Delgado. Due to filming taking place during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, two of these pairings are separated by a plastic screen. As for John maybe not the best idea to have a near 80 year old leave home to come pretty much 100 miles to a busy Covid infested London at a time before there was a vaccine. Simpson even gives the Master his own theme, which will follow the character throughout all the Pertwee-era stories that he wrote the music for. The season marks the first appearance of the Master who goes on to make further appearances through the season in every serial as the main antagonist who is finally captured at the end of the season. They’ve asked for proof of purchase and said they should be able to get a new booklet out within 2 – 3 weeks. I wonder where the mistake take place, cause on the promo materials there is different picture on the spine, clean and smaller. The Master is back as well, but in his cigar-chomping bloke off the Mastermind box mode, he could pretty much be replaced by A. New for this box set are some brand new features to support those which accompanied the DVD releases.

This is pretty much Barry Letts’ statement of intent for the series, with a strong core team of characters orbiting around a fascinating story – and it works like a charm. Where this set shines is with its extra features, including features from previous DVD's and features new to this edition. Sacha Dhawan for instance offers up insights and makes comparisons regarding his own performance as the Master when presented with the original portrayal. com is an Introducer Appointed Representative of Pay4Later Limited, trading as Deko, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 728646). It's great to have these stories again, some I still have on video tape but no longer have a player.Below are an example from each story – note some of the improvement can only be appreciated when viewing the video in motion; these images demonstrate the decreased screen area on the generally better BD restoration.
