About this deal

With abundant photographs, in-depth sketches, and Hadid’s own drawings, the volume traces the evolution of her career, spanning not only her most pioneering buildings but also the furniture and interior designs that were integrated into her unique, and distinctly 21st-century, universe. With her flashy outfits (which were almost always accompanied with a cape) and tempestuous personality, Hadid fully embodied the term "starchitect. Meet three inspirational people from the world of literature: Maya Angelou, Anne Frank, and Jane Austen! Beautifully illustrated and lovingly designed, worthy of approval from Zaha herself, this biography/picture book celebrates the life and designs of architect Zaha Hadid.

With signature sophistication in the design, and superbly creative structures, Zaha Hadid led her firm to create transformative, cultural, corporate and residential spaces that entered into complete synchronicity with their surrounding environment. During the latter years of her life, Hadid’s daring visions became a reality, bringing a unique new architectural language to cities and structures as varied as the Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art in Cincinnati, hailed by The New York Times as “the most important new building in America since the Cold War”; the MAXXI Museum in Rome; the Guangzhou Opera House in China; and the London 2012 Olympics Aquatics Centre. The groundbreaking monograph contains Hadid's own striking drawings and paintings, as well as hundreds of sketches, plans, and models. Made me think of wanting to be better in my own life and to always fight through challenges when they come my way. In addition to Source Books in Architecture, his writings have appeared in Log, Dialogue, Loud Paper, and elsewhere. Also in this series - Amelia Earhart, Emmeline Pankhurst, Agatha Christie, Maya Angelou, Coco Chanel and Frida Kahlo.

Born in Iraq, raised in London and recipient of the coveted Pritzker Architecture Prize (and twice winner of the UK’s Stirling Prize), Hadid transformed our experience of space and architecture in a career that spanned forty years. Eleven new projects are featured, including 582-606 Collins Street (Melbourne, Australia), Messner Mountain Museum Corones (South Tyrol, Italy), King Abdullah Financial District Metro Station (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia), Dominion Office Building (Moscow, Russia) and One Thousand Museum (Miami, USA). I always want the students in my classroom to know about different careers, different obstacles people face, and different ways of thinking. At the back of this book there is a facts and photo section to support the story told (great for parents and older children hungry for a few more details). This fourth edition has been thoroughly expanded and brought up to date with the latest completed buildings and new projects.

This comprehensive volume of over two hundred projects – from the earliest experimentations to product design, from speculative follies to large-scale built works, including the London Aquatics Centre, the Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul and the Dominion Office Building in Moscow – is a testament to the depth, range and excitement of her vision. Zaha Hadid's highly inventive and seemingly unbuildable designs have defied conventional ideas of architectural space and construction. With an audacious and abstracted geometry of forms and lines, the BMW Central Building challenges the notion of building as static and is definitive evidence of architecture as art. I would've enjoyed more of her thought process rather than a simple listing out of her many (admirable) achievements. This book strikes a nice balance between being rich in details from Hadid's life while maintaining a focus on the philosophical/artistic underpinnings of her creations. This inspiring book features stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of the architect’s life.

He has been deeply engaged with the world of architecture for almost fifty years and has written numerous monographs on the work of late 20th-century architects. Victoria Tentler-Krylov is a practicing architect and editorial illustrator with art published in the Wall Street Journal and the Boston Globe. Meet Emmeline Pankhurst, an inspiring women's rights activist who changed the world for future generations of women. This delightful series (Little People, Big Dreams) introduces young readers to outstanding people, from designers and artists to scientists.

series and monographs on numerous major architects, including Norman Foster, Tadao Ando, Renzo Piano, Jean Nouvel, and Zaha Hadid.
