About this deal

Heavy Duty: The wooden workbench top is made from MDF and is perforated, so comes with pre-drilled holes. I'm currently in the process of doing this and I'm really disappointed by the 20mm Festool router bit. The first group just wants to cheaply reproduce a MFT top to replace the original surface and use it for general clamping purposes.

Then for me I do not find just having the 20mm holes makes for a complete setup for me so I also route in the dovetail slots for using microjig clamps and fitings which transforms the whole experience. However, it is faster and more precise to use workbench plates that are manufactured with the highest CNC precision. If you don't know what that means, don't worry, it's not complicated, it's just a way of checking that an angle is at 90 degrees. I got around that issue by turning the top over and routing a 45 degree chamfer bit around them, giant pain with over 300 holes. My lesson learned was to use a backer board when drilling the 20mm holes to reduce the likelihood of blowout from the large cutter as it exited the Valchromat top.In this video I make a MFT top for my new workbench / assembly table for use with bench dogs, fences and accessories without the use of a CNC or any expensive guide jig systems. As has been said, if you want to copy a Festool MFT top check to be sure it’s really what you want to duplicate. While waiting for the finish to dry I started making a simple drilling jig that's going to help me to drill the holes accurately. I'm going to use a 20mm auger bit, this set is by Irwin and you'll find links to this set in the description box below if you're interested.

dog hole diameters, aluminum/stainless/delrin (all have different rates of thermal expansion) dog outside diameters along with dog hole locational distances, why would you think that this is in any way a precision guide to cut precise angles? If you are interested in a work surface with lots of 20mm holes for clamping and are not concerned about the accuracy, the MFT/3 top might be ideal. The second group wants to reproduce a MFT surface that becomes a critical alignment surface using dogs and dog holes to align Festool rails to cut critical angles and to attain picture perfect fits. The ratings/reviews displayed here may not be representative of every listing on this page, or of every review for these listings. Before I go and spend my money on the wrong tools Does anybody know or have a link to the correct bushing size and drill bit that fits the 20mm MFT/3 holes used to prevent damaging the the top before drilling out the bulk of the holes? There might just be a video out soon on a modestly popular YouTube channel that compares the UJK Parf Guide Mk2 with the Trend MFT/jig and the RSPro jig. Yesterday I setting up the spare top to use on a Dewalt miter saw stand and discovered that some Delrin dogs (I bought at some point) fit the holes nicely so I got got out my best big machinist square and checked the pattern. The drilling jig was now ready to use but before drilling the holes, I denibbed the first coat of varnish on the top using some 400 grit abrasive paper, brushed away the dust and applied a second coat of varnish to really seal things off nicely.

The Makers Workbench is supplied with a standard 150grit finish, leaving the striking black/grey and wood fibre core exposed. I just secure it with dogs and a clamp, drill out most of each hole with a 1/2" bit, and then finish them off with a 1/2" pattern bit.I've tried to make drilling guides for it but I'm not finding anything that permits a perfect perpendicular angle. The trim was looking pretty good, but in a few areas it wasn't quite flush with the MDF so I used a block plane to level it. Plus, if you get stuck at any point during the build, I’m here for you, to help ensure your project is a success. if you take a point and draw a vertical straight line that measures 3 of whatever unit of measurement you prefer to use, and then you draw a horizontal line from that same point that measures 4, the distance between those two points to make a true right angle triangle must be equal to 5.

We recommend workbench clamps, toggle clamps for workbenches or bench dogs, which are used as a stop for the workpiece. I use whatever materials make sense for the item or project I'm working on, whether that's wood, fabric, leather, metals or plastics. To secure the top I'm going to be using pocket holes, but without using a jig - I just get th drill bit started, and then slowly angle it and finish off the hole. As the GRS is already set up to plunge the first hole centered 71 mm from an edge, you can turn the rail 90 degrees and use the LR32 to make the additional 6 holes from the short edge for each of the 11 holes that were already cut. This configuration makes it possible to use multiple off-the-shelf accessories: joint clamps, clamping elements, stops, etc.Feskit – Engineered by necessity, is located in the South West of England and prides itself on small niche tools and fittings for the Kitchen Industry and alike. I was watching the chap who designed the system's you tube on how to set it up and make your own boards. I chose moisture resistant just in case I ever spill any liquids on the table top, as I wouldn't want the wood to swell if it gets wet. I'm using some water based varnish which is pretty much my go to finish when I want something hardwearing, it's great stuff. It was good for painted projects, but the thin surface would not likely hold up to the constant abrasion from working on a table surface made from it in the same way it would hold up for road signs (a typical use).
