The mystery surrounding Heather’s death shapes the plot but the thoughtful prose created the essence of the book. The cherry on top of this deliciously dark read is a cinematic, gut-punch of an ending—the kind of finale that feels built for the big screen, and more than makes up for any slower start that some readers may find this book to have. Told in racing dual timelines, with a dark campus setting and a darker look at friendship, love, obsession, and ambition, In My Dreams I Hold A Knife is an addictive, propulsive read you won't be able to put down. She was the least talked about character even though we had an insane amount of flashbacks where she was alive.

In addition to my love/hate relationship with the characters, I was incredibly impressed by how atmospheric this novel was.

Our other characters and suspects are star athlete Frankie,brain ( that fits with both for Jess and our victim Heather), golden boy Mint who was long time boyfriend of Jess and left her for social media influencer princess Courtney ( even though she is not the member of unlucky number seven, she’s involved into murder investigation by being married with Mint), sweet, social, loyal friend and Coop’s new fiancée Caro, shy, lovely Jack who was also boyfriend of Heather has been accused to kill her but Eric finally knows he was not the one who killed her sister so he didn’t involve in his murder investigation. The case was never solved, though a cloud of suspicion still hangs over one of the other group members. Especially last two flashbacks involving Jess’ birthday party with her family and and her talk with Heather where do they see themselves ten years later were the best flashback chapters of the book shook you to the core. Twisty and compulsively readable, In My Dreams I Hold a Knife will have you turning pages late into the night, not just to figure out who murdered beloved Heather Shelby, but to see whether friendships forged under fire can ever be resurrected again.

All of the characters are so fleshed out and it was such a great mystery trying to figure out what actually happened in the past. One character is a jock, another a nerd, a spoiled rich girl, a girl from a religious family, a rebel etc.Drug dealer, coming from poverty, smart, snarky, charismatic, seeing the true face of Jess from the beginning and he is the only truly accepts her. She’s self centered, ambitious, broken, over achiever, competitive, a true self destructive person showing sociopath tendencies. I’ve been so excited about this book for weeks now—next to For Your Own Good by Samantha Downing (another absolute must-read) it might have been my most anticipated thriller of the year. But an individual with close ties to the group has plans for Jess and her friends, and this college reunion is going to be about much more than reliving glory days gone by.
