Bushmills was the world’s very first licenced whiskey distillery, established in 1608 in County Antrim, Northern Ireland and still drunk worldwide with a host of awards to their name. I had the real privilege on 14th July 2017 of touring their beautiful distillery in Bushmills town centre, up close to the Antrim coast – a "bucket list" moment of mine.Facebook sets this cookie to show relevant advertisements to users by tracking user behaviour across the web, on sites that have Facebook pixel or Facebook social plugin. Bushmills 10 Year is a single malt whisky that has matured for 10 years in bourbon seasoned barrels.

Distilled three times from 100% malted barley and matured for a minimum of 10 years mainly in selected American oak casks - a gentle maturation which lends soft vanilla notes to the whiskey. Whilst some pedants might note that the company itself didn’t come into existence until 1784, 1608 being the date King James VI/I gave a licence to distil to the contemporary landowner, you’re still looking at a very long pedigree. The essential Bushmills 10 Year Old comprises a marriage of spirits aged for at least a decade in ex-bourbon barrels and sherry butts.

Bushmills ten-year-old single malt is an approachable and elegant and Irish whiskey with an exceptionally smooth finish. While its sibling, Black Bush, leans into the sherry flavours more, this is a great advert for an all-malt Irish whiskey. Dubbed the 'Original Irish Single Malt', this 10-year-old whiskey from Bushmills has been triple distilled from 100% malted barley and matured for at least 10 years in sherry and bourbon seasoned barrels. It has a distinctive light and fruity aroma and delivers 10 years of maturation in primarily bourbon barrels.

This exceptional 10-year-old malt whiskey has been distilled in the oldest licensed whiskey distillery in the world, having recieved its first grant to distil in 1608 Bushmills malt is a smooth, rich single malt with overtones of vanilla, honeyand sherry. Whether you’re savouring it neat or as part of a toothsome cocktail, you’re sure to appreciate a whiskey that’s well-balanced, delicate and as smooth as silk. This one tastes more fruit heavy whereas the previous bottling was more creamy with a fruity topping. A favourite whiskey of many years; and even if unintentional, Bushmills 10 Years Old is probably as near a benchmark as I'll admit to having. The final process is bottling, which also takes place at the Bushmills distillery, which is rare as they are one of the only distilleries in the world that bottles their own whisky to ensure quality is maintained.

The story of Bushmills started back in 1608 when they were given a license to distil and in 1784 the old Bushmills distillery is made official. As Colum Egan, our Master Distiller, says, “we’re still making whiskey the old way; the way our great-grandparents and their great-grandparents made it. The sherry really overpowers the vanilla and honey from the bourbon casks and takes away from the desert like flavour of this. Officially launched in 1784, although whisky had been produced on the site for at least 150 years prior, this is one of the industry's oldest and most respected names.
