However, in my reading of the book, he does not appear quite so rigid when it comes to his hermeneutics of the Bible. A salient example of this last weakness is that Comer breaks with thousands of years of allegorical readings of Song of Songs that, without doing violence to the text, tell us that this is love poetry and a testament to God's love.

Seeing as I listened to the entire 5 hour book within a busy day and a half, I can't really rate this less than 5 stars! Now, that's not all bad, but you don't have tobe a psychologist to figure out where that road leads. In English, we have just the one word— love —to denotea wide range of positive emotion, but in Hebrew, there's a handful,and each one draws out a specific nuance. It settles for pat explanations of intricate realities and easy evaluations of perplexing experiences. To any Christian, no matter what point of a relationship they are in, I would recommend listening or reading this book.
