About this deal

This time, it’s the distillery manager Gordon who has picked his favourite combination of casks to create the most moreish of whiskies. It was a separate company with its own blending, bottling and warehousing in South Queensferry, and officially incorporated in 1924. First impressions are good; the squat dark glass bottle has an old-fashioned (in a positive sense) appearance with a rather attractive gold / honey coloured branding which suits the theme well enough. I’m not usually a whisky drinker, as I find it too strong for my tastes, but the other ingredients included in this pulled me in to try it as they sounded like they would go together nicely.

The drink itself is very palatable - with orange being the dominant flavour supported by a well spiced background. A delicious marriage of unpeated Highland Scotch whiskies and herbs, fruits and spices such as bitter orange, vanilla, nutmeg, ginger and cinnamon. I have found the sweetness of some whisky liqueurs overpowering but with Highland Nectar, it is more the other flavours coming through and it’s delightful. This unique blend of un-peated Scotch whisky and the finest botanicals is the first liqueur from fine spirits creator, blender and bottler Elixir Distillers. The toffee becomes cinder toffee as vanilla builds, backed up by green, leafy herbal notes of tarragon. This rich liqueur is made by infusing Scotch whisky with a selection of herbs and spices, including bitter orange, lemon oil, vanilla, ginger and cinnamon. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The company originally held the license for Knockdhu, one of the first distilleries built for DCL that now belongs to Inver House Distillers. Aromas of raisins, butterscotch and sweet spices fill the nose, and the palate offers notes of dark chocolate, orange peel, banana, raisins and caramel.

On it's own - it's still not something I enjoy, however mixed up in a cup of coffee with milk and sugar - it tastes amazing. A delightfully spiced Scotch whisky liqueur, brimming with flavour from an array of fruit, herbs and spices.
