About this deal

For this re-release, Eisner-winning colorist Dave Stewart was hired to create a completely new color palette, putting an emphasis on more neutral, realistic hues, a decision which generated some controversy. The detail is incredible and the gore and destruction is all treated with great care, which in itself is a bizarre thought to have.

When she finally reaches him, she sees that Carl has slaughtered most of the security forces but has been all but destroyed in the process. Interestingly enough Darrow gives as much care and attention to folded fabric as he does to twisting metal. More on that to come, because I suppose it is here that I should discuss what the book is about, although there’s not much of a plot to speak of. In discussing the artwork of this particular edition of a 25-year-old comic, it’s worth noting that the original coloring by Claude Legris has been replaced by Dave Stewart.By rejecting non-essential cookies, Reddit may still use certain cookies to ensure the proper functionality of our platform. One of the reasons people got upset with Pulp Fiction was not because Tarantino didn’t offer the release (come on, Marvin getting his head blown off was pretty damned funny), but because the violence itself appeared to be “realistic” (in that it wasn’t just good guys blasting away at bad guys) but Tarantino didn’t treat it as such. Ewan McGregor is better in Shallow Grave and The Pillow Book (to cite two movies from around the same time)! One of the works that helped cement Frank Miller's reputation as one of the most innovative creators of the comic book industry!

PREVIOUS EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros is negotiating to acquire the Frank Miller and Geof Darrow comic book Hard Boiled, with the studio poised to set Free Fire‘s Ben Wheatley to adapt and direct.Unit Four is the ultimate robot killing machine and the last hope of the future’s enslaved mechanical servants. In it, Carl Seltz, an insurance investigator, discovers he is also a homicidal cyborg tax collector who happens to be the last hope of an enslaved robot race. With the exception of “Year One,” his work has become increasingly satirical, as he cannot escape the shadow he himself created early on in his career and therefore needs to poke fun at it as best he can.

As I noted in the original post, I think Miller was forced into satire because Dark Knight was so over the top. In 2001, Variety reported that Warner Brothers was in negotiations with Miller and Darrow to adapt the comic book into a film, David Fincher set to direct and Nicolas Cage to star.Unit Four is the ultimate robot killing machine—and the last hope of the future's enslaved mechanical servants.

Miller doesn’t deviate much from standard science fiction themes – artificial intelligence rebelling against humans. I really hope they’re not, because they’re so much fun and they dovetail so nicely with what Miller and Darrow are really doing with this book, which is pissing off all the right people.
