About this deal

Whether she makes you laugh or cry, or whether the series is about a cupid or a gold-touched woman living in King Midas's castle, she hopes to create characters that readers can root for. All in all, I really enjoyed this and I’ll definitely be reading the next one at some point (with Vio! The king turned her entirely to gold, making her his prized and favorite possession, and built her a series of cages in the palace to protect her from the outside world.

This is one of those series that started off phenomenal, and only gets better with every subsequent book. I feel like this dude has some superiority complex, cause everything he touches will turn into gold. A part of her is telling herself that it’s not right, and she knows that she’s in a dark place mentally, but the other, more important part of her tells herself to focus on the positive and that she should be grateful for all the luxury she is provided with and all that Midas has done for her. While I agree that Midas and Auren’s relationship is toxic for Auren and that she is not in a good place mentally because she loves Midas and refuses to see that he is using her and does not truly care about her, I don’t think that the manipulation and abuse she’s victim of have been romanticized.Depends on how it'll go on in the second book, I think this book is more like a prequel rather than a first book. Auren and Midas have a past together before Midas became king, which is slowly revealed as the story progresses. The magic in this book is mysterious and timid in the number of appearances, but it still give us a rather immense impression in its power and quality. This book has been haunting my tbr list for a while since last year and I saw this book haunting my goodreads update page around last year too.

Mythological retellings are selling like hotcakes currently, and yet I'm still over here wanting more, more, more. This is unique to Gild, with the other books, while still being character driven, do have “more going on.I have fought the terrifying Red Raid Pirates, endured the murder of those I care about, and survived the frozen planes of Orea, only to find myself a prisoner of the army of Fourth Kingdom. If you've read the 1 star reviews you can tell they either didn't bother finishing it before leaving a review or are wrong about why she is like she is because they assumed something that you get told the truth about further along in the book. I did not even check how many pages I have left and I was surprised when I found that I am more than halfway through the story, I was THAT engrossed. He turned her gold - for reasons unknown - and keeps her caged up in his golden palace to apparently just watch him indulge himself in carnal exploits. Despite the riches she lives in, she still feels a sense of sympathy and sadness towards the devastating reality of the world outside of Highbell.

His name fills any enemy with dread as the vile and cruel King who earned the title "King Rot" has a cursed power that enables him to rot everything standing in his way. To give you a taste of the story, I'll try my best to summarize it in a way that is not very spoiler-y. Would really recommend this for people who like a weird fairytale retelling with quiet, resilient protagonist.I hereby predict that in the following books, Commander Rip will end up being 'King Rot;' The aforementioned 'rot' will be a deterrent to other kingdoms, and not a way of life in the Fourth Kingdom; Auren will fall in love with the Fourth Kingdom's King. The conclusion is this book was one of my most wanted books this year, and it didn't disappoint one bit. This is a very popular book on tumblr/bookstagram, but it often comes with the continuation "the second book is so much better!
