About this deal

Meanwhile, there’s a slightly heavier, darker vibe to ‘The Shadow’ that slots right into my personal wheelhouse. This is a perfect ending to an epic, powerful, and informative journey through fantasy, science fiction, and history. Interestingly, for all its upbeat nature and welcoming embrace, the final track, ‘Citadel’ allows the duo to introduce a slightly more sombre, almost melancholy vibe upon which to close things out.

Indigenous communities rights and Cody learned at the feet of the elders at Alderville a First Nation Reserve. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.A power duo from Canada, Crown Lands play a style of progressive rock with classic rock and psychedelic leanings that would normally not even cross my mind to check out. WE may be listening to two individuals for whom music is as essential to their being--to their every breath--as the aforementioned talents (both of whom I believe were conduits of the flow of a force from a source far greater than any corporeal human). Practice and emulation pays off for self-described Rush worshippers Kevin Comeau and Cody Bowles with this, the closest I've ever heard to capturing the purity and distinctiveness of Rush's great 2112. Unfamiliar with the debut currently (although I will rectify this ASAP), the composition, in the words of drummer and vocalist Cody Bowles, “spans hundreds of years following our titular hero: Fearless after the events of (2021 single) ‘The Oracle.

Add in other references from Wolfmother to Led Zeppelin, and many more in between, and I’d be betting my paltry wages on the fact that I’d probably have a listen to one song and then give up. But there's a storytelling format within the multi-part suite that just really captures our imagination. This is not a Geddy Lee vocal, no sir, it's one that could compare with the greatest of the greats: Robert Plant, Steve Perry, Klaus Meine (The Scorpions), and, of course, Ozzie.

On their 2020 self-titled debut album, Crown Lands resembled a raw blues-rock power duo harbouring latent prog- ock affinities, vacillating between dirty boogie grinds and pastoral reveries.

And the lyrics, 'If life is a wheel / Please, let it spin,' has that Neil Peart enthusiasm and optimism for life. Citadel" (5:52) plaintive piano play opens this song--reminding me of the genius that was Freddie Mercury when Cody enters to sing. Nine tapestries of tone, where atmospheric swathes morph into strident guitars, dexterous polyrhythms and gnarly basslines. The bass work as the song develops is superb, throbbing with intensity, whilst the delicate guitar touches accent the brighter, bolder chords delightfully, bathing the complex track with an immediacy and warmth that is often out of reach for lesser acts. Dreamer of the Dawn" (4:03) a song that sounds a bit like GUNS 'N' ROSES with some RUSH basics, but as Cody's vocals and drumming go on I'm feeling that we're experiencing a new, though retro-oriented, sound.Well as a Rush , Zeppelin fan it would be hard not to start thinking this should be good - and like I say it wears it's influences front and centre. Crown Lands are a Canadian duo with obvious influences from Led Zeppelin and Rush, but with other influences if you listen long enough.
