We all learned about Doom's ominous presence, and this book justified just that all the while making it a very engaging story. I see a rise in Fantastic Four popularity coming with Hickman’s run and Millar’s run about to be all out on trade, and it never hurts to have a couple books on your shelf to show off to people as they come over and ask you just who the Fantastic Four really are. And for long-time fans of the Fantastic Four, we get to see how their greatest nemesis gets into the Darth Vader-type suit and finally goes from Victor von Doom to Dr Doom. This book perfectly captures every single trait of the character perfectly; from his brilliance and mastery of both science and magic, to his incredible arrogance, pride, and shear willpower.

But while in its telling Brubaker's story becomes a "true" origin for Doom, I don't know if it is really necessary.Brubaker gives us the complete origin story for this character, with the narrator being Doom himself. We will never knowingly harvest your data beyond the cookies needed for smooth running of the site, and wouldn't dream of passing it anywhere. It is beautifully formatted so you lose nothing in the translation of a print book versus the digital version.

It is clearly explained that the soldiers turned against their King simply because they realized that Doom and his army could not be defeated, and they wanted to survive.Again, he keeps that element of the older story -- there is only one man that dies in Brubaker's story when Doom finally prevails and that is King Vladmir. Victor von Doom Reminisces about his childhood, the loss of his mother, and his first visit to the United States. One of the stories I remember from Byrne's time on the book was that the reason that Doom wore his iron mask was because he was hideously scarred under it.
