Babylon is a movie, like Chazelle’s La La Land that I finished and immediately wanted to take a gander at again. And whilst it's crafted with all the style and panache of a veritable Hollywood love letter, the bitter taste it leaves means it reads more like vicious hate mail in hindsight.

If you put aside some of the more prominent works by Mike Leigh and Ken Loach that have been successful at important film festivals around Europe and Asia, there are probably only about a dozen or so independent British films that you would be able to track down on DVD. Robbie is also great as LaRoy as a scarlet of the industry, but came at just the wrong moment to fulfil her full star potential and, most of the time, a loveable giant pain in the arse.
