About this deal

I also found the book offered new perspective to me on cases I thought I knew and had made up my mind about. Clearly the author has achieved an awful lot in his career, but the book is in no way about his personal achievements, it is all about the victims and that is what I especially loved about it. This was an interesting and educational read, however I constantly felt held at arms length by the author.

It felt a little unsatisfying to hear about cases that were still unsolved and I think that took away from the book a little. I've been in the presence of people who have killed; I've been in rooms where people have been killed.

HUNTING KILLERS WITH MARK WILLIAMS-THOMAS will be at York Barbican, York, doors are from 8pm, Mon 13 March 2023. In my early 40s now, I have spent the last 30 years reading about truly barbaric murderers and their crimes. author spends most the book describing his skills as a detective journalist and very little actually delving into real crime stories. Mark will talk about the offending of serial killers and where it all started and explore deeply into the minds of some of the most notorious serial killers he has investigated. Really well written, incredibly interesting and I think a very important book to get a lot of information out there, I had no idea for instance the press behaved as described!

Mark now has his own prime time ITV and Netflix crime show, The Investigator and presents the Unsolved strand on This Morning, looking at undetected crimes. Mark Williams-Thomas has raised the bar in this genre of writing and in the context of the audiobook he has added another string to his bow. A tense novel from a fast-rising star, Sam Holland, The Twenty fuses a chilling race-against-time with blood-curdling crime fiction. Prosecutors who seek the death penalty put their lives on the line if the guilty are later found innocent. I also note that the very few pictures that are in the book, at the back, and this is something I rarely see in any true crime book, are only connected to the victims, and the faces of those who took their lives are not included. As a former police detective and a criminologist who has far-reaching experience of working at the centre of high profile investigations and undertaking major reviews. A definite must-read for lovers of the true crime genre and perhaps a fantastic introduction to it for those yet to explore the fearfully fascinating, darkest and dustiest corners of the human condition. It is difficult to use the word 'great' given the subject matter but, nevertheless, this was definitely an interesting and insightful read. His favourite cases involve missing persons and murders, but not exclusively; the author is the man who revealed Jimmy Savile's crimes to the public, so there's quite a lot about that too. The eye catching cover, the whole layout, the structure, the way the author moves back and forth between cases, it is seamless and very easy to follow and this makes it extremely easy and enjoyable to read.
