About this deal

Follows the story of Ed Gein, influence on such characters as Norman Bates and Leatherface, this book deep dives into what drove Gein and how he went about his crimes.

Gein’s confirmed murder victims were Mary Hogan and Bernice Worden, though it’s implied that Gein also probably murdered his brother Henry, and there were numerous other human remains found in Gein’s house and buried on his farm - some possibly murdered by Gein or as the result of his extensive grave-robbing. That title reads like a rumor—the condescending familiarity of the nickname; the un-self-conscious, casual grammar. This comic gives a visual that changes perspective on the case from desensitized cop-talk to something that truly shakes you deep within. Can we say, then, that evil is a universal feature we are born with, and that there isn’t much we can do to stop it, unless we work as a society to find the deranged elements and confine them in a place where they cannot harm anybody? They all knew the name of the guy who made the headstone for Gein's grave which they assume was since stolen. What does the fact that he denies killing people mean, even when there is so much evidence pointing to his being obviously guilty? is an excellent, informative and enthralling summary of the case of Ed Gein - definitely worth a look if you’re a fan of true crime comics. That is another quote that Alfred Hitchcock said to François Truffaut, which Powell and Schecter use in their opening chapter. It would be easy to dismiss the problem as non-existent, as too mired in the impossibility of reaching a clear answer.

Though their chosen genres could not be more disparate, they share a slightly bent perspective, and the challenge of presenting the facts of Ed Gein’s abhorrent existence in a compelling graphic novel has produced a work that is singular and extraordinary. And, of course, they also delve into what Gein thought, either through his own words or through people who studied him, and we come to a better understanding of Gein and his mind.

But there is something more: We might indeed feel sick in the stomach just by a situation where we perceive something is not at all right, as if the lurking feeling that crawls on the back of our neck is not lying there for nothing. Splendid monochrome graphic novel taking care to present this case history in context, drawing on court records and interviews, while being clear about its telescoping of matters to tell a story. Eddie is portrayed as a bumbling fool at times, but the author and artist show he might have a much more sinister side, which I 100% believe.
