A powerful antioxidant found in nature, Azelaic Acid is easily absorbed into skin – helping it stay calm, combating environmental damage and improving brightness. I love using azelaic acid for the prevention and reduction of spots, reducing hyperpigmentation, and for giving my skin a glow. Loads of skincare brands market their key “actives” on products, but when you look at the INCI list, those ingredients are right at the bottom. From the first photo at the top of this blog back in November when I got home from holidays, I waited a few months as I wanted to finish all of my existing products. This versatile, powerful ingredient can treat a wide range of skin concerns, including redness, uneven skin texture, blemishes, dullness, and much more.

My melasma is kind of under control after using Hydroquinone and Tretinoin but I’m on a break from the Hydroquinone so I could do with some bonus depigmentation which know Azelaic is good for. A couple of months ago Dermatica were kind enough to offer me a three month trial of their treatment plan and I thought I would document my experience to share with you guys. If you’re just beginning to incorporate azelaic acid into your routine, this is phenomenal, and it’s worth every cent.As soon as Dermatica saw my photos, they instantly told me I need treatment for Melasma so that was that. I remembered reading in the Dermatica booklet that to minimise any initial reactions you could apply the cream OVER your moisturiser, and decided to give this a shot. Propanediol- An oily substance that creates a smooth vehicle for the actives and helps with penetration. You upload photos every month or so into the online system so it’s really easy to look back and compare. I do love the Soothing Centella Gel Moisturiser for nights when I’m not using my personalised treatment though, and for daytime wear.

I do find that this takes a little while to blend into my skin but, once it does, it doesn’t feel particularly heavy or greasy. I really love that Dermatica haven’t skimped on hydrating ingredients here – oily skin needs moisture too! I would highly recommend Dermatica to anyone who cares about looking their best for as long as possible. This is important since, when your skin is adequately hydrated, you’ll find that fine lines and wrinkles become less apparent. This one is fragrance-free and similar to The Ordinary, but it applies more elegantly, and Cassandra finds that it doesn’t ball up quite the same.My Dermatica Skin Glow treatment actually includes 4% azelaic acid… I think many of the other personalised formulas do too! Any retinoid enthusiast will have come across Dermatica’s personalised formulas… but did you know they have their own skincare line too? The toner is exfoliating and has a nice, orange-citrus smell, but otherwise, Cassandra doesn’t believe that it lives up to its claims. Each month you get a tube of product which slowly changes to increase certain ingredients as your skin gets familiar with it. It combines a prescription strength concentration of a well studied dermatological treatment with some beneficial ingredients that work together to make this a great treatment moisturiser.
