You might gain a few extra spaces from your movement cards – say, if you can bid a total of 6, win the bid, and move ahead 8 spaces. Whereas most games would buckle under 2 extra players, in Flamme Rouge players make all their decisions simultaneously, and so this expanded roster doesn’t noticeably increase game length.

At first glance it looks great to jump ahead, but you have to remember you’re spending movement cards to get there.Nothing here shakes the foundation of the base game and rightfully so, Flamme Rouge is about minute advantages and infinitesimal obstructions. Full disclosure: I can’t say I’ve had the opportunity to play with such a large group, but I imagine it would be entertaining – even if putting each individual player into the hands of fate more than the standard game. It should probably go without saying that you should also not stack a mess of hills and cobblestones together. It's an expensive proposition, one benefiting those farther back in the pack and, as with most of Flamme Rouge, it's a subtle advantage.

Let’s assume you’re familiar with Flamme Rouge, and you’re here to see if the expansion is worth adding to the mix. The original game only included rules and components for 2 to 4 players which was a shame as whenever a race was in progress it would attract many people to the table all wanting a go. Sometimes there will be more players and the ability to accommodate them is something that will get Flamme Rouge more table time.These are like downhill zones, only the minimum movement is 4 instead of 5 (if you play a 2 or 3, you still move forward 4).
