About this deal

MR16 and GU10 bulbs are both technically MR16 bulbs. One has a GU10 type base and the other has a GU5.3 type base. The bulb with a GU5.3 base has simply become known as an “MR16 bulb.” The bulb with a GU10 base is commonly referred to as exactly that: “a GU10”. Here, we’ll refer to the two bulbs as MR16 and GU10. Circle with X in represents the light. It doesn't matter which way round the 12V lighting circuit goes, and it would appear that it supports up to 4 lights. The LEDs are wired in parallel, when they need to be wired in series to give the necessary resistance for the transformer to work. Beauty Advent calendars are significantly pricier than chocolate ones, but they've become increasingly popular in the last few years as a way of bagging beauty products at a fraction of the normal cost. They often sell out early, but can also be heavily discounted later if they don't, so here's a round-up of some of the best I’ve seen. We can determine by the specs you gave that the transformer is indeed AC Electronic Transformer for LV-Halogen Lamps

Many MR16’s & G4’s are sold as 3 on a transformer. If you have several MR16’s say 4 sets of 3 (12 total), could you simply connect all 12 new LED bulbs to 1 transformer (assuming that all 12 now draw the load required for 1 transformer)? Halogen bulbs claim to last 2000hrs (2 years average), but it’s more like 1000. Some GU10 LEDs claim 24,000hrs, but that’s an even bigger lie! However, the EU implemented a law in 2014 – LEDs now must last at least 6000hrs, so they last 3x longer than halogens, minimum (more like 6x longer or more)! with your existing installation. The likelihood of compatibility between a 12V LED light and a 12VAC halogen transformer depends on a few factors:false. You must’ve had 1 bad ‘bulb’ (LED bulbs are called lamps, I think, and they contain many LEDs in each lamp). The LEDs in each lamp slowly fail and thus the light dims (30% failed LEDs is where they deemed to be dead, I think, or 70% ?). Most light bulbs operate off mains voltage ( see below), but some light fittings are designed to be lower voltage. These are most commonly used in integrated kitchen fittings, where space is at a premium and smaller bulbs are a necessity. Low voltage light fittings often need a compatible transformer ( see below) to convert mains voltage to the correct, lower voltage. Most low voltage spotlights will be between 12-24 volts. So I'll just wire in brown to live and blue to neutral and wire out the two wires to the lights on using the first two output terminals.

These numbers tell you the maximum wattage that the transformer can carry. For example, a 40VA transformer can handle up to a 40-watt halogen light bulb, while a 10-60VA one can carry between 10 and 60 watts worth of bulbs. Some transformers might just carry one individual light bulb, while others might be able to carry several lower wattage light bulbs in a series. to their D900 Curve LED downlight. The voltage is approximately 36.5V (oscillating slightly on account of voltage ripple from the 50 Hz mains) DC.

The LEDs are too far from the transformer, resulting in voltage drop (the maximum distance is about 1.5-2m). I don't have the knowledge to diagnose which of these issues (or combination thereof) is at fault here, so any advice will be gratefully received. If you have low voltage halogen light bulbs installed with a transformer, the first thing you need to do before replacing Halogen MR16 light bulbs with MR16 LED bulbs is to find the transformer’s maximum load. You should be able to find this on the body of the transformer itself, in the form of a ‘VA’ number. This VA number will either be fixed, or it will be a range (e.g. 10-60VA). Tridonic Atco speedy. Their specified load requirements were 0.1-0.3 A, 20-60 W, 20-60W and 0.1-0.3 A, respectively. An Atco TM50-2 wire wound transformer was used for comparison. The primary winding for each At this point, it’s important to note that if it is a halogen transformer, this maximum load applies to halogen light bulbs only. For example, if you have a 40VA transformer for halogen bulbs, you should not install 40-watts worth of LED light bulbs. This would overload the fitting and potentially cause a safety issue.
