The dialogue feels very natural and candid, the character designs are unique and the art in general is just very pleasing to the eye. A very positive start! Welcome to Sextillion, bitchesss! The world-building (or rather: universe-building!) in general is brilliant: Vaughan has created a rich and complex universe, filled with different species, cultures, and technologies. The attention to detail is impressive, and I found myself fully immersed in this fantastical world.Davis, Lauren (July 27, 2014). "Brian K. Vaughan And Fiona Staples Reveal What's Ahead For Saga". io9. It’s still full of delightfully dark humor. The banter continues. Planetoids hatch into creepy giant Space Oddyssey 2001-like fetuses. Thong-clad space brothel madams fail to keep a contracted killer from saving a six-year-old from sex slavery. There are monstrously sized space alien genitals (because why the hell not, apparently???).
I also have to take a minute to talk about the art because it's beautiful? So so beautiful. And funny too. The artist is great at capturing movement in wide landscape shots, and the facial expressions and emotions of the characters were drawn well too. I’m thoroughly hooked now. That was the moment I got the entire series. Because there’s no way I won’t want to finish. Can’t wait to see where we go from here. Still at 5 stars - and I’m definitely a hopeless fangirl now.a b c d Vaughan, Brian K.( w),Staples, Fiona( a)."Chapter Ten" Saga,no.10(February 2013).Image Comics.
And grief, and loss, and love, and parenthood. And banter. And space genitals which my eyes can’t unsee. The fourth Volume, which begins Book Two, establishes the family living on the planet Gardenia, with Alana acting in an underground entertainment program called the Open Circuit in which all the actors wear masks. Hazel is now speaking in simple phrases, while Prince Robot IV's son is born. [47] A disgruntled robot janitor, Dengo, kills Prince Robot IV's wife, kidnaps his infant son [48] and journeys to Gardenia, where he kidnaps the family. [49] Marko and Prince Robot IV team up with Yuma to pursue them. Meanwhile, The Brand teams with Gwendolyn and Sophie to acquire an elixir to heal The Will's injuries. Retrieved February 9, 2016.Little Hazel is now about 5 or so, and she moved on past just being a plot McGuffin and is now a real person. And she is beyond adorable, and I will fragging murder anyone who tries to hurt a hair on her adorable head. I am a little bit scared of the inevitable heartbreaks that the next volume will likely bring, as things have indeed been set into motion. And yes, a part of me just hopes that maybe from now on Saga will just be a story of lovely domestic bliss, with everyone learning to get along — but something tells me it is so NOT going to happen. There's also some excellent use of narration. The story is being told by the fleeing couple's daughter, but the actual narration is used sparingly. There are little pieces of it woven into panels here and there, drawing your attention to certain themes and recurring elements as needed. I thought it added a lot to the story, and added a lot of emotional emphasis to certain scenes. The themes themselves were well written, and there are some interesting conversations about morally gray topics that take place between characters. a b c d e Vaughan, Brian K.( w),Staples, Fiona( a)."Chapter Thirteen" Saga,no.13(August 2013).Image Comics. Plus copious swearing, gratuitous nudity, well-aimed violence. And, in the midst of all that, overpowering adorable cuteness, vulnerability and love. The eleventh Volume, collecting issues 61-66, is set six months after the end of the previous arc and follows three key storylines: Alana's resolve to improve the fortunes of her family, Gwendolyn's plan to sway the Robot Kingdom's allegiances over to Wreath, and Agent Gale being forced by Landfall's government to finish the mission of eliminating Hazel and the allies associated with her throughout the years. The comic was described in solicitations as " Star Wars meets A Game of Thrones", [1] evocative of both science fiction and fantasy epics such as The Lord of the Rings as well as classic works like Romeo and Juliet. [2] [3] [4] It is Vaughan's first creator-owned work to be published through Image Comics, and is the first time he employs narration in his comics writing. [5] Vaughan indicated that the entire series will span 108 issues. [6]Hell of a body count in this volume. You’d be wise to remember this ominous passage from an earlier issue: Thank you, Dennis, for introducing me to this series. At least I don’t have to wait for 3 years for the next volume.
