About this deal

Billy and Blaze always found themselves in the middle of some crisis and, with courage and heroics, never failed to save the day. It was just supposed to be, ‘Hey, here’s a fellow neighbor who’s just struggling and I wanted to help him out,’ ” Swearenjin later told Dallas’s WFAA.

It is not too surprising considering our vapid, gormless, and ignorant society hellbent on misdirected striving. It wasn't well written, didn't feel like a ghost story (or a murder mystery for that matter), has some creepy undertones, and just didn't sit well with me. The writing was done so well and the author truly possesses such great descriptive prowess — as many have mentioned. It was surprising, funny, and an emotional ride for people who have had some of the feelings in this story before. This had twists and turns and a somewhat predicable ending but I was still shocked all the same as there was one I did not anticipate. I especially liked the relationship that built between Leigh and the two versions of the ghost, it gave the characters good development.

Early Reviewers gives out free new and forthcoming books to readers in exchange for an honest review. I wish there had been more with the ghosts and her healing and not so much with the cloak and dagger. I don’t know this guy and this isn’t a sponsorship,” says Jerrad Swearenjin in the on-screen text of his now-viral TikTok. It was a compelling (almost short) story that involved mystery, suspense, ghosts, tragedy and trauma as a result of organized crime and betrayal. The story is fast paced and moves from scene to scene, no long narration where nothing is happening. The cover depicts Leigh, a 16 year old, clad in skin-tight black leather and arching on a motorbike.

Set in the quaint town of Ravenwood, the story follows the adventures of fourteen-year-old Leigh Howard, a curious and courageous teenager with a knack for uncovering secrets. Shawn would be the first to tell you, being a husband and father is by far the wildest and most rewarding part of life. As Leigh delves deeper into the mystery, she uncovers a web of organized crime and betrayal that puts her in danger. There is also a typo, (the instead of they), which is a personal pet peeve of mine and probably doesn't bother other readers. The reason for my two stars is quite simple: 1) the dialogue is “cheesy” to the point of being unrealistic. It doesn't matter if you're into Stephen King, Octavia Butler, Jack Ketchum or Shirley Jackson, this is the place to share that love and discuss to your heart's content. While she does her best to adjust to her new life and deal with her grief — shes unable to let go of not knowing what happened to her parents and embarks on discovering the truth no matter how difficult it is.

Five stars for me has to hit ever check mark - I question if these reviews are from people who have actually read the book themselves rather then following the main stream hype. It’s been so many years since I’ve read a YA mystery book and this was nothing short of that but more. the main MC was 16 years old - but her age got lost in the writing, a lot of times I kept thinking she was older than she was, I think the author did not hit the thinking/characteristics of a 16 year old girl. I feel it’s important to give an honest review and include a few content warnings to help parents decide if their child should read this as the intended age range feels like 13+. Overall, I was excited at face value to read the book and support the author, but I think it's important that I put this out there even among the glowing reviews for this book.

It’s more young adult in nature, the premise is interesting, as is the ghost aspect , and I think Leigh embodies the teenagers essence, selfish, unreasonable and almost childish when there’s something they want. A different type of story compared to other books I’ve read but I truly think this book is for everyone.
