These cards are great for recognition and vocabulary building, as well as beginning to talk about similarities and differences.Books do influence how gender is seen or not seen and what is interesting is that even in 2000 females are often invisible or not children’s picture books. Each Story Sack features all eight Dear Zoo animals from Rod Campbell’s beautiful book, including the elephant, monkey, lion, camel, snake, frog, giraffe and puppy. During group time I've also used this aspect of the book to have children make different connections and comparisons.
